Y2K WILL MAKE A SAFER AMERICA!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Because of the concern over their personal safety and their family members, many goodthinking citizens of this country made the decision to finally purchase a firearm for self-defense because of the fear of home intrusions caused by Y2K unrest. I think in the months down the road this will prove to be one of the best ways that we as a nation can reduce the crime rate. And I believe this reduction will occurr fairly quickly as we get into this year 2000. With all the liberal media hype about the explosive rise in gun and ammunition purchases around this country, what rapist, thief, or any other home intruder would take the chance. The touchy, feel good Clinton crowd will have a tough time explaining this one away. But they will try!

Might be me, but somehow I've never really wanted to have a gun around the house to feel all tough, manly and safe. Oddly enough, I somehow think that your vision of the universe seems to have a certain bias, and yet I can't quite put my finger on it...

John,

Over the next year or so, many communities will have a "gun buyback" program and I speculate that many of these people will sell them to the PD for pennies on the dollar, as they have been doing. Some will sell them at yard sales and others will simply pawn them.

This country isn't 2nd Amendment oriented anymore. This country is lapping at the heels of the Liberals, asking for tighter control and tougher dispensation of the current (and future) law. People WANT to be ruled. Just don't touch that 6-pack.

Only the hard-core will maintain their rights, even when it does become "against the law" to do so. My opinion.

P.S. Support your NRA. (watch the flack this one gets)

Amen, Brother.

Ned...do us a favor..move to Cube or someplace that you would like better than here. You are not needed.

Rob and John...I'm preo gun myself. I do believe that all these people that ran out to get a gun need to learn how to use.store it. It really won't do them any good if it's used against them or a family memeber-even accidentally.

However...they learn to use it and maintain it and it's one more brick in the wall to protect out freedoms.

Now...I don't know where you guys are. But I think I'll wait a month and do a gun 'buy back' on my own homefront...they ant to get rid of them. I'll be happy to get them for pennies on the dollar...ammo and preps too.

Ooog...mispellings. make that 'Cuba' 'Pro' and 'want'.

I'm the NRA...and I vote.

Cuba? Thanks, I'd rather not be in a repressive dictatorship. And before anyone gets on my butt about how we're living under the Clintonista regime or whatever the usual hoo-hah is these days, give it a rest. All anyone has to do is read one Amnesty Int'l report detailing what happens in certain countries to its citizens on a regular basis over things we in the States take for granted -- including the right you all have to disagree with current policies being advanced by the government, in this case the question of gun ownership. America ain't perfect, but it sure ain't hell either -- and whether you like it or not, the right to bear arms also means the right not to have one around at all.

Satanta,

Kansas, Tornado Alley. I for one am NRA and think the second Amendment is vital and the cornerstone to our other rights. I myself wouldn't mind catching a few good deals on a "dread firestik".

Anyone want to sell, look me up. But, you pay dealer handling (grin).

How come, if guns in the hands of citizens are so dangerous, that for the 200+ year history of the country, we haven't been slaughtering each other right and left? Take the guns out of the hands of the honest citizens, and the only ones left who will be armed will be the .gov types and the criminals. John Doe will be a sitting duck for either one. In the towns where armed households are the law (yes, they exist), crime is non-existent. Get educated, then get a gun. Go, NRA!

hmmmmm....could be another backlash on our rights. Double skrew us! They could announce new laws for the sake of the "children". I can hearem now --"Due to WhytooKay, the Americian public is armed to the teeth, not to mention all that food and shelter (we'll be workin on disarming that later)......it is hearby decreed that we will be pickin up your Y2k arms beginning yesterday...due to WhytooKay".

Ned,

Can't say I agree w/your sentiment about gun ownership, but you're right in that one doesn't need it to feel "manly." Personal decision, which I can respect. I've got several, but don't have them exactly handy (but can get to them rather quickly).

Liz, what history books have you been reading? Ever hear about Wounded Knee? The KKK (yes, it has been government sanctioned)? What about mass deportations and incarceration in concentration camps (e.g., Native Americans and the Japanese as a couple of examples)?

I'm pro-gun, I write my representative and Senators, and I vote - every election.

LIZ,

Kewl post ! I like it. We need more woman like yourself who train and are responsible. Good job. And if I made a mistake and your not fem, good post anyway !

Farf. Yes, I can kinda see that. It's been set up in that direction and it will be very interesting to see what transpires. BTW, Bradley stated on national TV that if he is elected, he will propose "sweeping gun legislation unprecedented by any other administration". Scares the waddlin' out of me.

-- Rob (maxovrdrv51@hotmail.com), January 05, 2000.

John Thomas -- I don't agree, not at all. The effect will actually be just the opposite. You can already see it coming.

First off, criminals already know there are 250+ million firearms in this country in the hands of the citizenry. A few million more won't make a whit of difference on their attitudes towards committing a crime.

Secondly, the current Administration and its ilk will point to the panic mentality of those who prepped for Y2K as a sign that we are not mentally balanced or stable. They in fact, will deem it even more necessary to further disarm us. This is now already happening and has of course, been in the works for some time.

The media will in all likelihood turn up the heat against law abiding gun owners as being "fear mongers". They will tie the Y2K issue to this and will use this against us. I think your hope that crime will be reduced is purely wishful thinking.

You mean the National Registration Association? The NRA is NOT about gun ownership, I'm not sure it ever was. I used to be a life member until I researched the 2nd Ammendment myself. Then I realized that the NRA either doesn't or won't abide by the 2nd Ammendment at all. They are all for all kinds of registration and limits on gun ownership. I'm not and neither is the 2nd Ammendment.

Truth,

I appreciate your opinion about the matter, but I do disagree with you on the NRA. The ILA, the legislative branch which does the wrangling for the NRA (you and I), has been very active in support of individuals rights to own guns, especially of recent.

For many years I stood down on membership to the NRA because they did nothing more than serve as a financial sponge and figurehead for owners. In the last two years I have seen a great movement from that corner of the room but, that isn't to say that they are doing us much good especially in the face of these school shootings. THIS is what is hurting the law abiding owners rights. Those who were on-the-fence or anti already are greatly influenced by these horrid acts (as are all of us) and this is their ammo (no pun) for eliminating weapons of all classes.

Little do a lot of people know nor realize, eliminations cannot be completely realized. They (guns)will always exist regardless of the laws and unfortunately they will probably proliferate in the hands of thugs.

I have no quick and easy answer for the crime virus which has affected our children on so dramatically. I have some thoughts about many approaches which I think, combined as a concerted effort would help stop much of this. There is no (1) answer to the problem. Anyone who thinks there is is sadly mistaken.

Anyway, the NRA is making enough of an effort now that I felt my money would be put to good use. True, there are issues that I would like to see rectified yet, but then what else do we have to enlist as our representation ?

I don't think the push is because of the death toll, it's the Treaties signed with UN to disarm America.

HABITAT II

UN COMING FOR ALL YOUR WEAPONS

They need to DISARM AMERICA to Take CONTROL< /center>

Global UN Gun Grab

Clinton collaborating with UN

"For the first time, a federal judge has ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees an individuals' right to own a gun. In the process, the judge invalidated a 1994 federal law that denies guns to anyone who is under a restraining order to prevent him or her from harassing a spouse. The law was part of a measure aimed at reducing domestic violence by limiting access to guns."
