POWERSPIKE IN CONNECTICT ANGERS RESIDENTS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Don't know the magintude of this, but my wife just heard on local TV Channel 3 WFSB Hartford, CT (It was the lead story) that a local community in Old Saybrook, CT suffered a major power spike Monday morning. TV's, computers, boilers, telephones... were blown out in numerous homes. The residents want to know - WHO'S GONNA PAY???!!!

No mention ok Y2K, but sure smells. Naturally, Northeast Utilities comes out with all those bueacratic responses. I notified the Station to follow up on the Y2K angle.

I'll post any new developments.

The insurance companies, of course. After all, it's not because of Y2K, right?

It's not Y2k-related. It's not Y2k-related. It's not Y2k-related. It's not Y2k-related. It's not Y2k-related. It's not Y2k-related. It's not Y2k-related.

Well:

Exactly.

I now declare games of post Y2K era now open. Gentleman take your positions. On your left expert programmer witnesses at the insurance companies and on your right the expoert programmers from the corporations and in the middle, everybody else.

On your marks, get set, go...

As I recall, Northeast Utilities in CT was one of the utilities listed as not-so-good in the original Navy Master List

Great idea! Expert testimony, insider information, subpoenaed confidential NERC memos...better than the next round of Olympic games!

When a major power spike out here fried equipment, the people were told "tough". Insurance didn't cover it, "Act of god", and the power company basically laughed at them. So, they had to pay for the replacements out of pocket...

check power company wording but i am pretty sure it is TOUGH!! i happened to see the power surge protection pepco was offering where they would come in and install it and you would pay every month for this protection but when you read the small print if there is a surge and your stuff gets fried, they only thing they will cover is to replace the surge equipment. hahahahahahah....great protection!!

this is funny because THIS IS WHERE, IF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE NOT COVERING Y2K DAMAGE, THEY WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF WHAT CAUSED IT. maybe that is how we will get our answers? one case at a time.
