AT&T ... not online yet with changes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Yesterday, 1-4-00, I contacted AT&T to have some toll free numbers moved to another line. The work will not be done until Friday or later I was told. Since I am used to having this kind of work done immediately I questioned the length of time and was told that they haven't gone back 'online' yet. They are waiting for everything to sort out before they attempt any online work.

Maybe it's no big deal, however it got me thinking about how many other companies are in this same position.

As the Gartner has so aptly stated...it ain't over yet. Stay tuned.

I'm from Canada I was instructed by AT & T on Jan. 4 to phone back on the 7 th of Jan. to get my new 800 number since they were so overloaded with work they could not take new reservations until that date I said jokingly what are they having y2k problems and she said no there just to far behind with there work.

Cary, now why do you put out info like that? You just waste our time and others. If it were true, it would warrant a thread of its own, with detail.

Jeez, what a num-nutz!

Mark, interesting question.....Please follw up and let us know if the work actually gets done!

Thanks!

I worked in AT&T's long distance inbound center, they also did all the maintainence for 800 numbers. In fact I worked on the software that allows customer server reps. to look up information on the configuration of 800 numbers.

I have nothing to add, except that it doesn't suprise me.

The turn around time for these kinds of things is a few hours at the most.

As one who used to work in the telephone industry, I have always felt that any Y2K problems in that industry would involve their support and maintenance systems. We will find out how well they prepared during the next few weeks.
