EDI stands for Electronic Document Interchange... allows government and corporations to submit purchase orders, request for quotes and other documents back and forth... it's a little different than web- based e-commerce.... broken means it ain't working...

I've personally seen *current* (as of a few months ago, with no change planned) single-digit EDI date fields used by a major US automaker for comms with their vendors.
