Millenium bug creeps into hospital machines

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The Millennium Bug yesterday appeared to
have claimed a second mechanical victim at a
Scottish hospital, where two kidney dialysis
machines had malfunctioned.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Health
confirmed that the machines at Monklands
District Hospital, in Airdrie, had malfunctioned
due to Millennium Bug problems. Health
authorities across the country were
immediately warned of the risk.

Chris,

Just to clarify because you MUST be a newbie, dialysis machines were always on the high risk list for medical equipment that could suffer and break down due to Y2k.

Chris, CRASS. Hopefully nobody died as a result. Dialysis machines are pretty important to people who need them.

Chris, It probably wouldn't be so funny to you if it was YOUR life that depended on a dialysis machine.

Disgustedly,

Frank

A Chris Crass actually lives in Washington state. Fortunately, Christine eventually married out of the name. She grew up tough though, like the boy named Sue!

Don't forget the rest of the article, spiderman:

The spokeswoman said: "It was a very minor problem and related to a fault within the automated cycle which disinfects the equipment.

"The problem was related to the date change. A light immediately flashed on the monitor and no one was at any risk. No one was hurt as a result of this."

Summary: minor problem ... cleaning cycle (not operational cycle) ... NO ONE at risk ... NO ONE hurt.

Wow, you doomers were right, quite the catastrophe, wasn't it?
