Local radio report says Government is imposing a news blackout about past and present y2k problems, Any news quotes from anyone?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I don't see our two local papers for an hour yet...but the radio report says things were not announced since the first in order not to cause alarm...could problems be picking up steam? Any quotes about the new info blackout?

ummm Could you indicate the radio station (which will probably back off on that one REAL SOON) and the city if it ISN'T Albany, NY ???

I seem to remember you are in the Albany area.

Mitel Telcom UK instructed their staff (twice!) to not speak to anyone (press, friends and family) about our, er, I mean their Y2K status after 31-Dec-1999.

Oops.

Why report every Y2K failure? Who cares? I'll bet 99% of you never even gave a damn about computer failures, power outages and every other piece of seemingly bad news that happened. Whoever coined the term "doomers" was correct. It seems like you can't wait till something really BAD happens.

There is nothing wrong about staying as informed as possible. I lived through, and was evacuated by the TMI Nuclear accident back in March of 1979. The NRC Bull S__t and news blackouts were in place to prevent a mass panic. If things would have gotten any more critical hundreds of thousands of lives were in jeopardy. Few if any here want to see the end of the world, but I don't trust what I hear (1. because it doesn't make sense 2. I work in industry and we're lying 3. the govt. has a history of deception.)

Now for you, live in ignorance if you like. May I suggest you get of this forum if it bothers you.

Gomer, You said you are in an industry that is lying. Why don't you blow the whistle? You sit there and spew righteousness and mistrust. Why don't you do something to make it right? Why not tell us what your industry is lying about.

Hypocrite!!

Nightdriver: radio station is WXBH 1190, Cobleskill, N.Y., about 30 miles west of Albany. Bob the announcer is one of the few radio GI's I have come across. I will finally check our Schenectady Gazette ("The Gazette") and the Albany Times Union by lunch time...I've been on the road this morning. The station often reads from "The Gazette" as it is closest to Cobleskill. Circ. is about 70,000, so it's not a tiny 3,000 circ paper....
