If we don't understand how it didn't happen, how can we understand whats to come

Been lurking for along time and am surprised at this early date as to those who choose to believe it is over. It is interesting that the predictions were missed so badly. Having said that, me thinks who could ever know that we could be in even more grave danger than we think because no one understands how it was missed so badly...comments?

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Yes, it's been on my mind.

Too little info. to come to any reliable conclusion...but what I've seen vs what I've been "told" doesn't add up--I posted so below and requested ideas--got not much of any response.

What didn't happen makes no sense! It defies all logic, and the combined education and teamwork of legions of brilliant and far- reaching minds. I cannot devote endless time and effort to chase down ephemeral answers--I have boys to love and lead and a sweetheart to love.

I'll tell you what--I'll do what I've done for many years now regarding other problems. Watch and learn.

Glen Fossl:

Well, you certainly could be right. According to Infomagic, we're still right on course for the devolutionary spiral. Who Knows?

But "over" or "just beginning" I sure look forward to the day when the "regulars" (now "lurkers") can come back and have thoughtful discussions on all this instead of all the reams of "I told you so"s from pollies we never heard from before.

We just got ahead of ourselves. Yes, there will be more rough sailing ahead. However, I am no longer so hyped about it.

Why does anyone really want it not to be a BITR? I only prepared because I was worried about infrastructure and oil. The supply chain and all that other crap will only produce a recession/depression and kill JIT companies like Dell.

We can live through that, not the loss of orderly society that is based on electricity and water (essential services). My business was killed last year because people were so scared of impacting any of their y2k remediated environments. They wouldn't buy new products or develop new software no matter what the opportunity.

So far today I am 3 for 3 with people I talked to last year that had put me off until this year. They are now empowered to buy and are ready to purchase my product and services. I do not want anything to damage that now that I already suffered a >100k loss last year. My business cannot stand that kind of loss again this year.

I vote for status-quo and it was all overblown....Why do you keep hoping for failure? You won't be unaffected irrespective of any preps.

William, we're not hoping for failure, we're trying to understand what is happening. 'Thinking positive' and 'wishful thinking' are not necessarily synomomous.

Keep in mind also that obvious failures that can bring a system down are usually the easy ones to fix. The hidden ones that do not appear until later are the bears.

William,

If you concentrate on what people have been saying, no one here, outside of an extreme fringe minority, is hoping for disaster.

Further, your brushing off the supply chain as unimportant shows vast ignorance about the interconnections that result in practically everything you use every day. If you're interested, let me know and I'll be glad to give you the details.
