Will you be selling your guns?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

A guy at the gunshop yesterday said he plans to go to the next few gunshows with a wad of cash. Buy unpapered firearms (legal in this state) from y2k preppers who don't feel they need their guns after all. What do you guys say? If you bought a gun, are you going to go selling it now? Or have you decided that gun ownership is a good thing?

That would be the worst thing in my mind that any prepper could possibly do. In California, you've got to jump through a bunch of hoops just to get a firearm. I believe firearms and ammo will be just as good as gold in the future. In this day and age where our rights are being taken slowly away, your right to bear arms is still intact, for how long no one knows.

A black bear in the bee hives sure hates the old fly-swatter across the butt! I'll bet a mountain lion in the chicken coop would respond just about as predictably. Maybe I am just a bit more rural than some, but when the neighbor needed the sheriff's dept. the other day, they responded in record time, only 41 minutes! Guess I'll hang on to 'em just a little while longer.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep them. As a wise man once said, "An armed society is a polite society". Think ahead a bit farther ahead than the little cash you're going to get from selling the gun (rifle, pistol, shotgun). Think ahead to another time you "might" need it, just the way you thought ahead to the point you are now. You bought it for personal protection. Keep it for personal protection. Keep it for sport. Keep it as a collector's item, as it won't be long before they're extinct. Just because the earth didn't come to a screeching halt doesn't mean you're never going to need it. Keep it, PLEASE KEEP IT. America is only free because of firearms, help keep it free.

There probably will be a small number of firearms come onto the private market (as in unpapered) but there won't be a lot I don't think. A lot of the motivation for the boom in firearms sales had as much to do with the fact that California had a whole series of new firearms laws go into effect with the first of the year and on perceived Federal actions in the next couple of years. Most folks will be holding on to what they have.

Bite your tongue! I'm thinking of picking up a small naval canon for starting sailing races at the yacht club...

A key thing is to obtain and keep a level of expertise with your weapons. Go to the range regularly, and rotate your ammo.

Keeping my gun - I certainly wouldn't sell it!

Also, I'm bidding on a crossbow. If there are any crossbow owners reading this, any crossbow advice or URL's you could forward would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

No, and in fact I just purchased another rifle this week, an Ishapore Enfield. Got it for a song.

Gun ownership IS a good thing, because you can still do it here in America, at the moment.

I practice at least once every two weeks, and shoot a minimum of 20 rounds.

Yes, gun ownership is a VERY good thing.

Let me know if anyone wants to sell their Y2K guns... the E-mail is real.

snoozin' by the gun cabinet...

I miss my AK47...really. Best firearm I ever owned. Good critter gun and plinker, low recoil, plenty of ammo...~sigh~

Looking at a war surplus .308 and/or .30-06 and a crossbow. Would like another .357 as well..keep my eyes open. All I have is my Mossberg with a few hundred rounds for it....I feel so naked!

NEVER !!

I hope that those of you who are new gun owners will spend a measure of time in the future to learn how to shoot. More importantly, I pray that you'll be instilled with a profound understanding of how rare it is to legitimately use a weapon to defend your home. Exhaust every possibility before pulling a trigger in an uncertain situation.

Sermon mode off.
