It was a ho-hum Y2K day By Lawrene Trump SPRINGFIELD NEWS-SUN

The sun rose and set on Springfield Monday as it has for uncounted Mondays before, with just a smattering of Y2K glitches reported.

Customers at the Firestone Tire and Service Center on Upper Valley Pike had to wait longer than usual Monday morning after the store's computers balked at the rollover to year 2000.

"It was stuck in 1999. We couldn't get it to go to 2000 until we entered in new information. We got it going around 1 p.m.," said Todd Hannum, in charge of the store's sales.

Firestone's Y2K readiness was handled at the district level, and "we didn't do anything at the store level" to prepare, Hannum said.

Customers who bring more than two cars to the business had their computerized service records wiped out. Staff members are re-entering the information, Hannum said.

"It's hard telling how long we'll have to do that. It's just kind of miserable when you've got a line of people here and you have to do everything by hand," he said.
