How slow are your internet connections/responses over the past 3 days?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have a computer that would win the Indy 500 if it only had a stick shift, and our CO. is online via ISDN. Since Saturday, internet response has been extremely slow to unresponsive at times. We are in a major metropolitan capital city. What is everyone else experiencing. I see a MAJOR difference at this point. karen

Never been slower. PowerMac G3, 56k modem. Crawling like a snail.

ditto; frustratingly slow.

iMac, 56k modem, connecting at 49,333, but getting disconnected every 5 minutes, and taking 20 minutes to reconnect. ISP usually excellent; since December 1 funky.

Very slow. Glad it's everywhere, though. Was about to chuck this thing through the window!

on 2Mbit, no probs in Netherlands

Using Blazenet, things have been slow, but are working. Wonder if it's 1) lots of users on line (doubtful), or 2)things are being rerouted alot, something else?

More of an irritant than actually causing problems.

Here's a good source for internet traffic reporting, it appears there has been increased traffic lately.

Sorry, I'm link impaired.

Mine has been excellent and even better than before Y2K. I didn't do any patches, change dates, nothing to my computer. Maybe the patches are slowing things down.

Mine has been so slow I can hardly move around anywhere. I just checked the internet Traffic Report and it is only 31 here in Canada. It is no wonder I am having problems. you can check it here. http://www.internettrafficreport.com/cgi-bin/tr_chartpage.pl?NorthAmer ica

Mine works just as well today as it did last week. So does my cell phone, my ATM card and anything else I was concerned about.

PIII 500 meg,128k ram,DSL connection. Installed Windows 2000 packet Dec. 31st and has been getting slower since the rollover. No problems and very fast until the 1st and getting slower on websites. US West ISP in Colorado. Thanks for the posts, thought it was me.

-- (dorado@me.com), January 04, 2000.

No problems here with my ISDN (BellAtlantic). It actually feels faster than it did just a week ago. I was getting dropped left and right then but so far I've only been dropped once this week.

FWIW, I did hear from a friend that is an ISP (ie. he owns an ISP company) that a major DSL backbone provider was down yesterday and not back up as of last nite. Sorry, but I don't remember the name of the company he mentioned...

Karen, glad you asked that.. I've had problems with the slowest connection speeds ever! Mine started Sunday though.

-- Linn (slowpoke@speed.com), January 04, 2000.

No difference here..thinkpad and AOL...but can anyone tell me why i can only connect at 24000 with 56k modem? is it my crappy phone line? If i use primary phone line i can get up to at least 37500
