RAP (01/03/00; 21:51:00MDT - Msg ID:22185) IRS Y2K Problems I have a very close relative who is an IRS agent, gun and all. They said they can't get there files out of there computers, and are waiting for "experts" to come and unlock them. This was a whole group of agents, not just one. Y2K is not over!

If this is true it would make all the polly rantings tolerable, even Hoffy's.

Bruce's post reminds me of a warm fuzzy IRS story. Friends of mine in Massachusetts bought a small convenience store. Why they didn't do a lien check I don't know- but the former owners had a large IRS bill that became my friends'. The kindly IRS people acknowledged that this was not my friends' bill but one that needed to be paid just the same. The friends were instructed to file every year (from their other jobs) and the kindly IRS would just keep their refunds until the debt was paid. Several years went by and my friends received a refund check. Cautiously, they made a few discrete calls to the IRS. After a long hold, someone came back on the phone and explained that one of the IRS computers had crashed and my friends' file was one of the lost. Their last comment was "Go ahead and cash the check-Merry Christmas."
