greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

jan 6,7&8 - first end of week processing for many batch systems (date varies due to processing cycles jan 8, 9, 10 - first date for processing payroll for many firms and gov't (state and local also) Also the first year to date calcs for firms, govt. jan 21 - 25 - second date of payroll runs, with month end calcs, and first date for cumulative end of year on payroll Jan 28-31 - end of month processing for the first time. This will also be the deadline for many local and state taxes for previous year. ALso the deadline for renewal of all sorts of gov't granted commercial licenses.

look for the problems to arise from mainframe processing or the failure of complex networks based on calcs passing from layer to layer in distributed accounting systems.

All weekend it was "wait 'til Monday. OK, Monday is here, the sky hasn't fallen. The beginning of the end keeps getting pushed a little more forward every time I come here. I'm sure in the year 2010 someone will be saying, "you just haven't seen the effects yet." Geesh!!!

BTW, I do agree, there are things yet to come but quit being paranoid as a form of personal fulfillment!

Neutered oberver: It's not paranoia, it's sadistic voyeurism. Cf. Daffy Duck: "I may be a coward, but I'm a greeeeeeeedy little coward."
