T2 Thoughts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

haven't said anything on this yet, but I suppose I should hehe.

Once again, this was a tourney where the games just weren't that much fun to me. I only played for a week or so and decided that enough was enough, and the games weren't worth my time to continue learning. MAME definitely doesn't get as much play from me now that I finally obtained my Neo-Geo 1-slot cabinet. :)

The Good: It was kinda fun and kinda frustrating learning to finish Rastan on one credit. I think the single best thing about this tourney for me was finally learning how to get high scores on Bust-a-Move, now I can put up a decent score whenever I find it in the arcade :) And on a side note, I'm rather surprised that I ended up getting 3rd on Scramble... not bad since I'd never touched it before. :)

The Bad: Crystal Castles, I just can't play it worth a damn. Getting the shortcuts was good enough for me. And Kung Fu Master... maybe it's just me, but the control seems so ass... only way to pull off a forward jump is to walk forward for about 5 miles and then do it :( maybe this was how it was like in the arcade, I only played the NES version.

The Ugly: Jr. Pac-Man! Ugh, just when I thought I couldn't hate a maze game more than Lock 'N Chase... having these ridiculously huge mazes with only two extra power pellets (with them barely even providing any monster-eating time at all from level 2 on), not to mention "bonus" items that you're pretty much FORCED to get, made for a frustrating experience. Mark and JG, don't tear your hair out trying to reach that 100k mark, it ain't worth it. :) Super Sprint was a pain too, I'm just not cut out for driving games at all. Maybe if I had a steering wheel...

Overall though, the tourney went pretty smoothly. Props to gameboy9 and Pat for running it, Ben Jos for whooping all our asses, and everyone else for the competition. See you all at T3 (if the game list is better ;))
