Food drive puts stockpiled food to use

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest hunger relief organization has organized a food drive to bring stockpiled food to Americans who suffer from hunger everyday. Many Americans stockpiled food, water, and basic household items such as diapers and batteries in preparation for a Y2K disaster. Fortunately, although there have been Y2K glitches, we did not experience any major disruptions in food supply. In an effort to help those who experience hunger DAILY we are asking that people donate their stockpiles to their local food banks. For more information people can visit www.secondharvest.org.

We aren't out of the woods yet. Oil stability has not been confirmed and international stability may have been due to encapsulation not Y2K compliance. To give away your stores now would be nice for the needy but embarrassing and dangerous for us "prepared" folks later in January, as well as ignores much of that data that we have been privy to from Y2K insiders.

To those who prepared for Y2K: preparing for Y2K prepared you for other potential emergencies. There will be other emergencies. We will have ice storms, hurricanes, floods and water main breaks.

Please maintain a reasonable level of preparedness for your family and neighborhood. If you can donate to charity while still maintaining your family's preparedness, do so, if you wish.

Y2K is not over yet. Winter is not over yet.

Nightline concluded their Y2K-focused program last night with a pitch for sharing extra food stores with Second Harvest. Nice touch!
