The glitches appear to be getting more serious degree by degree after reading the latest posts. Any more mainframe problems yet? Those are the real critical ones, the old systems and the mainframes, how will the It team cope if 'things' do happen to come unstuck around them or the mainframes they work with start to come unstuck themselves. When reports come in of banks starting to crash then their mainframes could be in trouble.

Cory is correct about the old systems and I hear that mainframes are some of the most difficult, stubborn machines to remediate and repair of y2k issues and the most time-consuming. I go by Cory's outlook on the situation as well. I am sure over time the system is going to start slowly falling apart, the system we all take for granted to run our lives and gov is now in a very weakened touchy sensitive state after the y2k operations and now we've got to run the economy with it under full load and pressure.

People in this forum spouted all sorts of garbage about martial law, grid blackouts, nuclear meltdown/missile launches, none of which can be hidden by press releases ("I overheard my uncle, who's a marine sargeant. . . ") and yet you still tend to believe them (anonymous nobodies with an internet connection) over the sources that have been overwhelmingly correct so far.

At least use a little common sense. Ask for proof.

When will the doubt cease? What's the magic date?

Hawk, Ive always had the impression that you have the intellect to sift through all of the BS surrounding Y2K issues. On any given day we could find power outages and computer glitches..part of our high- tech world. I would like to think you are smart enough to realize that the Y2K scam has run its course. Now it is time for all of us to get on with our lives. I spent some serious bucks on preps early last year and have no regrets. To allow the fear mongers to escape without scorn would be to sanction their next scam. Time for an honest reality check. Keep flying!

Mike, I'm no longer a y2k doomer (obviously), but I do think rational doubt is a good thing, in fact, rational doubt is the source of the material prosperity we (still) enjoy. Please see Cartesian Systematic Doubt. Of course, you may question whether the doubt exhibited here is rational any longer, but the general principles holds.

I am advocating doubt about some of these little first person tidbits we're experiencing. My favorite: British Petrolium to close down on Monday due to serious y2k bug. the responses were overwhelmingly positive: "Thanks for the truth man.", "this is the stuff the press won't tell us." It was of course total hogwash.

I think this board will continue to see reports of "real" power outages and near nuclear meltdowns and major business system crashes, all from "insiders". This will for the most part be a reflection of the "my uncle works for the pentagon and I hear him talking to the head of the electric company on the phone and he said he was heading to Nothern Canada to escape the horrors," and stuff like that that appeared in the time before the turnover.

The only glitch I've personally witnessed is the one with the weather machine over the mid-west U.S. It's January and 60 degrees outside. I hope they get it fixed soon, mainly because I'm afraid of what's in store for us this summer. Will it be 130 degrees? Or -50 degrees? Either way, I'm enjoying the current warm January with a grain of salt.
