Exploiting the Y2K Effort - What's next

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Billions(?) have been spent on Y2K. The question is how to leverage the knowledge and information that has been created. Hopefully, people like Ed Yourdon will be able to lead the business world to exploit, not forget, the bussiness of information processing. For probably the first time in corporation history, they know more about there IT world than ever before. They have a inventory or their technology; Hardware, Software, and, most importantly, business Processes.

Lets take some time to reflect and exploit this knowledge. Some ideas: Security of "critical systems" Automating and eliminating business process. Better AUTOMATED backup and Diaster Recovery. Consolidation and elimination of redundant "fields" and processing. Elmination of more printed reports and transfer to online viewing.

These are just a few thoughts. Would be interested to Hear Ed's as well as others ideas.
