Why Did You Prepare?

Listen, (For Those That Have Ears To Hear)

Many people made big bucks off Y2K, thats a fact.

Everyone will give an account at the end, so don't worry about it.

The question is: What are you really out? You can always use a generator; you can always use a water purifier; you can always use flashlights, batteries ect...; and you can always use dehydrated food. So what is it?

Your upset your ego will be challenged. You are having a hard time thinking you've been taken. You have to face people that will say "I told you so".

I've always been one of those that look at the "worst case scenerio". The bright side of this entire thing, I'm ready for anything. My mind is finally at ease, an entire year of preparing. Living in the North Country, I could not take the risk of any long power outages.

I've been through 2 ice storms in the North Country, multiple Typhoons overseas, and never prepared. My family was without heat and hot water for over 3 weeks and no phone for 10 days during the last Ice Storm. Fortunately, the weather was mild and they were able to stay warm couped up in blankets. Yes, Y2K made me prepare alittle more than I would of, but, it also tasked me (with an end date) to ensure my home is safe during the cold winter months. I have a 75 year old mother, handicapped sister and family I can't take chances with.

I'm sure a real true Blood Bought, Spirit Filled Christian will take any money (less losses) and do what is right, charities, tithe, ect..

And you know the deal with the others, they are dropping to one knee and pumping their arm, knowing they took you to the cleaners. You need to laugh it off and get over it, because that is reality. Thats the American way. It will get worse as we draw closer to what a Christian believes to be the beginning of the end.

Anyone that would risk the health, care and welfare of their families on the unknown? Well, there isn't much character in a person like that. Keep in mind the reason you prepared.

I prepared incase something would happen, not because it was going to. I could care less if it was North, Hyatt, whomever, I don't even know these people. I acted on the unknown.

The world spent what? 600-900 billion? That tells me that anyone that says the knew nothing would happen is full of s__t.

Get over it.

I have never made decisions for myself based on what others think. As far as I am concerned this past year was an exercise in preparing. I am so relieved because now I have more time to make better preps. I will never go back to the way I was. I am very grateful for everything I learned this year. Many people see the glass half full - others see it half empty - personally I am always grateful for anything that is in the glass at all.

I don't regret a bit of it. I learned a lot-both about myself and those about me. I have gained significant knowledge from this group, read some great books and met some wonderful people. I am considerably better prepared than I was-not as well as I'd like, of course, but not bad, and vastly more so than most. With all of the potential problems facing this nation, I feel confident that I will inevitably get to use my supplies. I have lost nothing.

One can at least intellectually (if not logically) allow the premise that the Pollies have the right to attack our beliefs and values. One could even allow them a considerable amount of vehemence in said attacks if we were coming to THEIR newsgroup(s). If they are to be granted even a tentative hold on the proverbial "moral high ground", one would think that this would engender a little smug serenity on their part (well, o.k., we were right! ohboy, ohboy, we were right!) and a little less apparent need to hound and harass. Bottom line: We're still prepared and you're not. We will survive. Will you?

i did it because there was so much uncertainty surrounding y2k (and i think there still is) but i am really glad i prepared because most of my preps are things i will use for a long time to come!!!! plus I DON'T HAVE TO SHOP FOR FOOD OR CLOTHING THIS SPRING!!!!! yippeeeeeeeeeee. this will be a low maintenance life for a while.

We had an earth tremor several years ago and immeditely afterwards, the insurance company offered earthquake insurance. I knew the probabilities and have been paying the premiums ever since. I will never get my premiums back. I am not the least bit disappointed that my house wasn't destroyed. The same with car insurance and fire insurance. The difference with Y2K insurance is that I can benefit from converting those dollars into goods that can be used by me or by others. Some of it of course would be a poor investment in normal times. One can always have 20-20 hindsight and envy those who guessed right. If anyone knew for absolute certainty what the future holds, he would not have to gamble. I truly believe that if it had not been for Gary North and his ilk, we would be in deep trouble with Y2K failures. They responded to his warnings in time.

HERB, Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm prepped for nearly anything. All it takes is reading the opening chapters of Wesley, Rawles book Patriots to see that Y2K could merely have been the straw which broke the camel's back. It's possible it's just taking a little time to manifest itself in obvoius ways.

I prepared for 11 people plus. The items I have gotten over the past two years will assist us at any given time. Should we have an earthquake, major storm, end up out of work, family disaster, or anything at this point we will be able to sustain us for a while. I do not intend on stopping my gathering. We will do what we have done in the past, rotate items and replace. This also gives us an opportunity to see if we like some of the items we bought over the last few weeks. My extra cots are in use at a friends cabin in Nevada until April, so even the money spent on those was not wasted.I acted from my feelings and answers to my questions on what to do. I did not ever feel that Y2k was the end of the world as we know it. I feel that as the people of this world we can do anything and accomplish great things. It will be people who will be the unknown and problems may arise from that. I do not feel that I am to be laughed or scoffed at for my or anyone else's preparations. We have all learned a great deal more about ourselves and our capabilities for survival. I have learned that I can use the pressure cooker that was sitting on my shelf for years and come up with great meals. I have learned that I can do anything. Lynne

Why'd I prepare?

Just in case "they" were wrong.

I don't regret prepping. I regret telling others what I thought.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), January 03, 2000.

Why? Because it was the smart bet. If nothing happened, I eat and use foods and other stuff in 2000 which were purchased @ 98-99 prices and use the money saved on a nice vacation! If dire predictions came true, my family would be protected. Easy decision.

I am preparing for the coming hard times in America. I've never lived through a depression, and it doesn't sound like fun. Today there were some coworkers mocking me, and I played along, telling them that I had been eating my preps for months, which is true. However, they have no conception of the total extent, nor have I ever told them. The pollies are having their fun, and soon they will go back to sleep- -- until the stock market crashes. Meanwhile, I'm still preparing. I told this only to a few GIs and my mother, a DWGI. America's prosperous days are going to end soon.
