Brazilian media reports that the only significative Y2K related glitches have ocurred in the central state of Sao Paulo. Four tolls in the highways of the states were unable to process the receipts when the machines returned to 1900. One hospital of the city of Sao Paulo had to operate without computers in the administration sector ehen the system collapsed regarding the apointnment of interviews with doctors. So far here in Porto Alegre, convenience stores that open on the weekend have reported glitches in the machines that give receipts to the clients. The printers made by "Sweda" didn't work as a result of the date 1900. The fix is underway and many problems of thus kind are expected on Monday with the beginning of the economic activity.

Hi

All of these glitches sound like the types of errors we expected. The question is "how many" and "where". Under the "death by ten thousand paper cuts" scenario, these would escalate until untenable. Moreover, problems in data bases could yield corrupt data.

So far, it doesn't sound like it has escalated beyond the point of "annoyance". But thanks very much for your report and keep us updated.
