President Clinton and the current booming economy.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have read many threads on this forum regarding the great state of the economy with President Clinton getting the credit!...Um...er...I don't know how to explain this to the authors of these ramblings except to say...Take a bow President Reagan! As for President Clinton, riding the "gravy train" seems to fit best. Am I the only one who thinks President Reagan belongs on Mount Rushmore?

No, you are not the only one. True Republicans believe that Ronald Reagan stood amongst the very best.

Wake up!, Reagan was a mind controlled stooge and George Bush was his "handler". So thank "Georgie Boy" - he's the one!

I totally agree, I lived through it and remember it.

Regan took office when America was at it's lowest. 50 hostages were held by terrorists. Carter's helicopter rescue just crashed and burned in the desert. The Soviets were EVERYWHERE. South America was starting to go communist. Moamar Kadaffi was blowing stuff up and making trouble.

At home, no-one flew the flag. We were in a post viet nam malayse. Our military was gutted and didn't project strength. Unemployment was high, the Welfare state was enforced.

Regan changed all of that. The defense build up put America back on top. 13 Aircraft carriers, several Tridents (I used to work on sub- based weapons systems). Also the F/A-18 program (I was on it as well) was pushed out.

The build up, and Star Wars cost a lot, but in trying to keep up, the USSR went bankrupt. After they fell, the rest of communism was severly weakened. Soon, China I hope China will get their MTV and mellow out as well.

It was the tax rebates, and the 401K and IRA programs Regan/Bush pushed that caused Americans for the first time to save a significant part of their income. That's how I got started, eleven years ago. I'm rich today because of Regan's programs.

The press hounded Regan on 'Iran/Contra'. What crap.. Trading arms for hostages was probably not a good idea, but the purpose was to free Americans. It was a noble effort. Not at all like Clinton, his purposes lined his wallet with cash, and pushed perversion. Clinton was in it only for self-gratification. Rapist-in-Chief.

Regan Saved America, and quite possibly the world.

Since the stock market took off as soon as Republican's gained control of Congress in 1994, I suppose we should give credit to them for the U.S. economy? Now some facts: - GDP grew an average of 3.3% annually since 1929 -- that number includes the Great Depression and every recession since then. - GDP growth in the 1990's will be under 3%, and that includes only one mild recession. - While stock market averages are high, only half of Americans own stocks, and half of those stockholders have small portfolios. The success of many high technology IPO's this year is certainly good news to investors who were able to buy the IPO shares ... but from a broader point of view, much money is being invested in companies who earn no profits and have only a "good story" to attract investors. The economy will only benefit if these IPO's can earn a profit for their investors -- and that remains to be seen.
