If Y2K is over with then why?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Why do so many keep coming here to flame with I told you so? Why are some of you feeling stupid and offering to sell your preps, after all this is not a for sale forum? Why the disrespectful comments against Ed Yourdon, Jim Lord and others? Why not just cease and disist? These people command much more respect than you and you show it with your words. Why the use of words not fit for civilized discourse? Do you use these words around your children? Why the open display of short term thinking?

If you wish to dispose of your Y2K preps contact me on this forum. You can offload them in my barn. I will not pay you for them as I have plenty but others don't. I will instead let you use my name as a reference when you apply for a loan for that new SUV.

Ed - there are a lot of petty, mean-spirited ungrateful brain-dead dumbed-down people on this planet - and more than average on this forum. Quite pathetic.

When your right, your a hero, when your wrong your a stupid idiot. When you stick your neck out it will get cut off, and when you keep your mouth shut you'll never be accused. When your an expert people perk up and listen and take the advice, when your a simple minded person you have no clout. When you act on the advice of the experts and get rotten results who do you blame? Nothing is a perfect science and there's never perfect advice, because some people win and some people lose, that's the breaks of the game. We all make mistakes and some are worse than others, however, we all learn a lesson from them. That's life in the big city. So quit your whining and snivling and get on with your life, you win some and you lose some, so what. The Y2K computer glitch may go down as the greatest hoax of mankind. Get over it!

Andy, How long do you plan on saying "there'll be problems any day now, just you wait, hahahaha stupid fools, hahaha buy gold sell stocks it's a global conspiracy, blah blah blah..." GIVE IT UP! Y2K was a NON-EVENT!! NO problems anywhere, and, excluding a few small problems such as the 19100 and 3900 glitches, there won't be, so quit while you're far behind huh?

-- Crono (Crono@timesend.com), January 02, 2000.

Hey Get Over It -- I didn't realize that this issue was about winning and losing. I didn't think it was a game. Gee I just thought it was about human survival.

You know, I would have thought that people would simply prepare to a level they felt comfortable with. This is cyberspace, and no one held a gun to anyone's head to make them do something. I would think adults would have better things to do than piss and moan about how much money they spent, and about how they were "misinformed". If you are not pleased that the world didn't end, I think you were at the wrong place to begin with. I've had a great time here, and believe many others have. Gloating pollies don't piss me off nearly as much as the whiners who think they have been hard done by. The rollover was a blessing. Maybe you will see that one day. And by the way, I wouldn't think there won't be any problems come Monday, or after that. I applaud those of you with the guts not to stick your head in the sand, and pass out apologies.

-- Gia (laureltree7@hotmail.com), January 02, 2000.

Why do "they" keep coming here and posting their stupid blatter? The Pollies won the initial, big round, big deal. I do not care that I may be wrong, I am prepared, 200 lbs of rice and 26 cans of spam,(my story) etc. But why the heck, do they keep coming back? This forum was (I Think) intended so those in a caught in a quagmire about the rationale of preparations. To give support. This is our scenerio, our nightmare, we have to let the film run, with support to one another. The Pop Up Pollies, are like an irritating commercial. Why don't they stop posting? This is part of my life's book, My decision, you pollies are a pimple on the arse of my life's book.

That's the point, Mello1. It was never about "human survival". It was always about human gullibility.

Mello1 sez:

>Gee I just thought it was about human survival.

Gee, Mello, I just realized I have some lowland in Florida. Interested?

LOL!

-- madcat (madcat@therightside.net), January 02, 2000.

Your human gullibility is my human survival. And no, I don't need any swamp land. There is enough of that right here on this forum already. But Alice, I suspect you know that, being friendly with the Mad Hatter and all....

and to talk about mankinds humanity to another. Guess the rag bum on the corner wasn't really Jesus. Remember, they expected him to come in Glory, he came as a rag bum, they ignored him, he went by. They missed him.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was so tied up for the past two years getting our systems Y2K ready that I had very little time to surf the Net. I did not realize, until New Year's Eve, there were so many web sites devoted to getting people ready for Y2K. I find some of the postings fascinating. This doesn't seem to be a closed forum, so I have replied to some posts.

For people who prepared for services, etc.. to be out for a while and got themselves and their families prepared .. I think that's great. We were never 100% sure what might happen. It wasn't until November of this year that I felt confident my site was ready for the rollover. It seems wise to have anticipated some disruption in services.

I was disturbed, as I read the archives on some sites, that many of the 'Y2K Experts' were predicting end of life as we know it. I have lived and breathed Y2K for two years, getting our systems ready, and when I found what some people had made others believe I was shocked.

Many sites were reporting Y2K readiness by December. I've seen that some of the 'Experts' discounted these reports and still preached doom and fear to their audiences. It was amazing how the self- serving 'Experts' kept at it. They had books and supplies to sell.

I felt very sad when I realized there were so many people who seemed to be living in fear about what would happen when 'Y2K hit'. Once we passed rollover, some people were still worried that catastrophic things could still happen. The amount of disinformation being given out by people who want bad things to happen is quite large.

I am one of the many who worked to prevent any serious problems caused by Y2K. In reading some of the posts at various sites I'm trying to let people know what I know. There seem to be those who want to hold on to their beliefs that we are still in for big trouble. They can keep their beliefs. I'm concerned for the people they try and influence with non and half truths.

Well said Gia.

Any piss-ant who would whine about spending the price of a new car in order to protect themselves and their family from a potential threat is a worm. Missed out on stock market profits????? BAAAAAAAA By all means, jump back in. Money has been the source of all of this "I feel so foolish" garbage.

Perfect example of just one of the things I was hoping Y2K would eliminate. Greedy, self-centered, weak individuals who are lacking character, values, ethics, conviction and depth.

Guess what.........they're ABSOLUTELY no better off if it turns out to be a fizzle and they wouldn't have survived a depression. So either way that makes them nearly worthless.

Hmmmmmmmm I'm suddenly glad they're gone.

My family gained SO much from the past 18 months, but it was due to choices WE made and I'm not going to *give* credit to Ed or Lord or Milne or Hamasaki or North for it. Just because this 'event' hasn't fit my pictures is no reason to *blame* anyone either.

Foolish sheeple.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), January 03, 2000.

Ed I am prepped, I am going to prep more, but I sure am glad the lights are still on. I thank God for y2k and everyone that has helped make me aware of how vunerable we are. I will continue to strive for self- sufficency in our lives, and beings nothing major has happened yet I got more time to do more things to get to that goal. I hope I can build a barn one of these days...it is the next project after the chicken coop.

-- salene (salene814@hotmail.com), January 03, 2000.

Dang, I hate whining people almost as much as I hate gloaters (not you, Ed).

I keep reading posts about who 'won' and who lost. Believe me, by getting thru the rolloever like we did, we ALL won. Or if it had gone the other way, we all would have lost. Maybe some more than others, but we all still would have lost.

"This is about the survival of the human race". That post got flamed. It happens to be the truth. Try being in a thrid world country when they decide to change dictators.....The hell with the human race at that point. I'm too busy trying to ensure MY survival to worry about a few thousand others.

It's not over. Quite a few carp about the cost of preperations. Well, if they were stupid enough to buy 300 cases of C-rats or MRE, they DESERVE to have to sit and look at the stuff....cause I guarantee they aren't going to eat more than one or two. All of my preps were things that my family eats on a almost daily basis. Gang, we weren't prepping for something that might happen in 2006, we had a specific date that it might start. We didn't need preps that would last 400 years....just one or two.

When my wife and I left Florida in 1980, we had a closet full of preps (ever hear of a hurricane?). Those went with us to NC. When we both started nursing school, those preps became our salvation. We didn't have to spend a lot of money at the store cause we had the basics. Yeah, I got tired of the tuna and beans and rice...but at least I had something to eat. Could have been a lot worse.

Relax, put some coffee on and watch the games. If you have preps, you will eventually use them. If you don't, what the heck does it matter?

-- Lobo (atthelair@yahoo.com), January 03, 2000.

Chris Josephson,

You make some good points. But why is it that you only speak of disinformation put out by people who want bad things to happen, and omit disinformation put out by people who thought that most recipients of that information would behave irrationally if they knew the full range of possibilities?

May I assume that the latter is just fine with you?

-- eve (123@4567.com), January 03, 2000.

Chris Josephson,

I do congratulate you on your heroic efforts. Thank you!
