rabbit heat for greenhouse

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have a new greenhouse that I would like to heat with rabbits. Some years ago I read an article on heating with rabbits but have been unable to find it. My greenhouse is 6'x8'. Can anybody help me?

There was a great artical about 15 years ago about some one who used rabbits suspended in cages and chickens [ in pens ? ] to heat a green house in a could climate. Haven't seen a follow up artical ,seemed to work well for them.

I read about this years ago but never made it past the planning stage. Another benefit was the carbon dioxide - oxygen interchange between the animals and plants,if I remember correctly.

i RAISED RABBITS FOR YEARS AND ALSO MAINTAIN A GREENHOUSE. I NOW USE LARGE (55GAL) BARRELS OF WATER TO ACT AS A HEAT BATTERY. I'VE ALSO CONSIDERED USING RABBITS. THE VALUE OF THE HEAT DOESN'T COME SO MUCH FROM THE BODY HEAT WHICH WOULD HELP BUT FROM THE COMPOSTING MANURE UNDER THE CAGES. CONSIDER PUTTING THE PLANT TRAYS ON TOP OF THE CAGES AS THAT'S WHAT I DO USING THE BARRELS. THE MENTION OF THE EXHALED CO2 IS A DEFINATE PLUS IN THE GREENHOUSE ATMOSPHERE.
