Thank-you, Flint

Flint, you are, without doubt, the most informed and understandable source of reality on this forum.

Between you and Dick Mills, I was able to prepare well, but spend virtually NO money on items I will not use in the future.

I was also able to enjoy reading this forum, trying to help others get a grip (yeah, I know, I also like to tease people when they get ridiculous), but I was able to do so without getting too hung up in the Meme of All Memes.

Without you and Dick Mills, I would have spent a minimum of two thousand bucks on a solar water system. This is an idea which had a lot of appeal, but is simply not cost effective at this point. I decided that the risk of power outages lasting longer than my 2500 gallons of stored water were so small that I would risk it, and haul water from my artisian well up to the house if the worst happened.

After a few days, I will begin replacing my cash in CD's. Lost maybe a hundred or so bucks worth of interest so far...Oh well.

I don't remember ever reading a post here sent by Dick Mills in person, but Dick, if you read this forum, thanks again.

Jumpoff, I hope I speak for many that have enjoyed your reasonable approach to all of this insanity. Have a great 2000.

ALK:

Yeh, I like Flint too; but he and Cherri don't know anything about salmon [important point; had a nice meal of Copper River Sockeye tonight; nothing like it].

Best wishes,,,

I agree. Flint has been a major asset to this forum...

By-the-way:

Have had discussions with Flint. Know the trivial stuff--Alabama, etc- but have only assumed the He part. Flint come on and tell us.

Best wishes,,,,

'He' is correct. I only regret that I haven't had the chance to meet more of the people here in person. I managed to meet three (Robert Cook, William Schenker (sp?) and Ken Decker. But that isn't nearly enough. We're so spread out that it's hard to get together. I still look forward to meeting as many as possible, if the logistics can be worked out.

WOW Flint -

Your very own fan club. What an auspicious audience. I have dubbed you the "Bloat or Gloat" crew. Those depending on the outcome of a futuristic event and their personal attendance to it. Since you have fulfilled the gloat part in our temporary SFSG (so far so good) state, I offer you a temporary congrats (wink) for guessing right. You've managed to fill an inside straight. Good thing, since you bet your lives on it!! The only problem is, there are a few more hands to be played. Care to re ante? Oh, I forget, you really have nothing to offer as collateral, except more guesses. Definitely not the types I would grub stake in a big game! Good luck, you're gonna need a lot more of it.

I believe Dick Mills passed earlier this year. There's a fine thread buried somewhere in the archives in which you'll find Dick eulogized beautifully.

I too wish to celebrate Flint.

He who sat at the keyboard in his full suit of armor, battling wits with the now infamous Paul Milne, 'a', Hardliner & others.

He who couldn't write his posts using Windows Notepad due to that programs word count limitation. [VBG]

The master of wandering a circuitous route to making a point. Often it was, after laboring over yet another Flint masterpiece of brevity, that I had to go back over said post in order to find his point!

Flint is the original devil's advocate. Adopting so many sides of an issue even he would end up confused as to where he stood.

Flint, your presence here kept me coming back month after month. Your willingness to discuss issues with a few of the most infuriatingly smug, reckless, irresponsible, crude human beings on the face of the earth was laudable, if not just a little bewildering.

I learned much from you, dear Flint. Perseverence comes immediately to mind. Enduring those afflicted with tunnel vision above & beyond the call of duty, otherwise known as suffering fools gladly.

Flint, you provoked me into using just a few more percentage points of gray matter. Sucked me into following threads which seemed to scroll on for dozens of pages. And entertained me to no end.

Most of all, Flint, your writing made me realize just how difficult the english language is to use for communication. Esperanto here I come.

Peace to You All,

I think Flint and I did battle once. As I recall I won. ;-) 'sup Flint?

Whoa, dude! Rumors of Dick Mills' death have been greatly exaggerated -- you are probably thinking of Harlan Smith. Furthermore, the thread containing the beautiful eulogy was by Flint.

Yeah, I've actually kind of liked Flint, sort of. Hard to say why, exactly. But one does sense that the man shoots straight and is honest. And that goes a long way on this forum.

Ouch! Apologies to Dick Mills! Thanks for the correction KOS.

Flint would be correct no matter how it turned out. Masterfully done. My hat is off to him.

Well I'll be dipped in... Will, ya just moved up a bunch of notches in my book. Now if we can just get you and Ken to kiss and make nice...

I've always found Flint's posts of value, even the "contrary for the sake of being contrary" ones ;-) Didn't want him to get out of here before I said that he kept a lot of folks on an "evener" keel than they might have otherwise been, congrats Flint, well done.

Don't push it Unc. Besides, Ken doesn't like women who shoot from the hip. He prefers them to be more of a 'Victorian' nature.....if he prefers them at all!

:)
