It's amusing to me! Why ist it that?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

It seems quite strange to me that people in mass appear to be engrossing themselves with a positive outcome. Since when has (TPTB) ever been forthcoming or businesses, or people in mass. I am not surprised; however, people always tend to accept those things that are told to them by newspapers television books and the like, as long as they are told under the guise of certainty and truth. You see the main problem we are having right now are the misinformation we have had from a select group of doomers who were trying to convivnce everyone that the problems with Y2K could not even be temporarily circumvented.I am sorry to report that I cannot give a total valid hypothesis due to a lack of expertise in this field; however, I am an expert on human emotions and the psychological response. So I shall give comment on this. You see people tend to agree with those that most closely resemble their views, and if they feel that the persons has expertise in that field aboe and beyond there own, even if they are right or can't understand the logic involved they will tend to believe said person. This takes us back to a previous comment I made. The doomers who said that there was no way circumvent the problem even temporarily screwed up. They got that idea fervently fixated in the minds of fellow doomers which caused them to think that something would have to happen on the rollover to lend credibility to anything that they were saying at all. This, coupled with the fact that the media and the powers that be will do ANYTHING! to prevent widespread panic,( I.E. controling the information recieved immediately by the media.), is cause for even the most hardcore doomer with little expertise to throw in the towel regarding their beliefs regarding Y2K diwscordance. This will also discredit those who in the future with credibility realize potential problems and speak out about them. Those of you who feel that this is over I give my heartfelt sorrow to you, and apologies for those who you thought were aiding your cause but were actually leading up to the destruction of your selfpreserving beliefs. That is what this is about,(SELF PRESERVATION!).I could go on for hours giving co,plex reasoning and factual instances( including sporadic power outages throughout the U.S.); but for lack of a proper venue I will not. I would appreciate feedback regarding comments I have made here; however, not if they are emotionaly charged rantings of a fool who can't acknowledge the possible implications of social disruption. I am not a doomer! I just want the possibility and any and all logical hypothesis' to be available to those who are feeling misled by nay of the above entities aforementioned.

Thank You ---Jaden

The power is on and the beer is nice and cold in the fridge... the cooler was on standby. We here, rejoice in the fact that we are prepared for anything that comes our way. What is YOUR problem, exactly?

People believe what they are able to believe. It is as simple as that. One person's facts are pure conjecture to another.

My power is on. My phone works. My heat works. I got $50 out of an atm yesterday. I charged last night's dinner on my bank card. This scenario is the same in virtually country of the planet (except Gambia I suppose, oh well). Do we have reasons to cheer? Yes. Is there stuff to come. Yes, but with the power on (not to mention the years people have spent preparing fo the bug), it's all fixable.

I have not read of a single confirmed power outage in the US that could be traced to Y2K. Rumors do not count. Rumors and guesswork are why people on this forum have a basement full of pinto beans (and why I have about 10 gallons of water in mine (bought into that water report from a few weeks ago).

I have been out and about for a couple of days. My area seems completely unaffected. You can't fake that!

C'mon folks, let's move on. Let's stop wasting time commenting on NOTHING. There'll be plenty of bugs to PANIC about next week.

I tend to call myself an independent thinker. not doomer, survivalist, cultist all labels given by the controlled media to individuals who refuse to tow the party line.(drone syndrome). IF y2k proves to be a none event, it is a set up to bring out into the open the last of the independant thinkers, to sell them on a problem that never was. Thus distroying there own beliefs, making them question there own sanity. does this sound like the road we have all walked while we questioned y2k as a real threat. By the end of that road we were left with a choice, prep or not to prep. Life or Death,we all chose life (human nature). That was allways going to be the choice TPTB knew this and this has been used to great effect against us. Never again will we question the party line, leaving them free to carry on their objectives unopposed. The final voice's trying to cry halt to the headlong dash into oblivion, silenced. The techno world that is removing us humans from the reality that is begining to pile up all around us.

They claim to have spent billions on repairs. where are all the repair verification reports. we have to ask the question no reports no repairs? would this account for the nations that did nothing having the same results as the nations that did, so called repairs.

Do not give up on your beliefs because that is the only thing we have left.

I just wanted to let you know I agree with that youre getting across here. most are so totally unprepared to even admit the possibility that our lives could drastically change, even reading that someone else is ready to face such a challenge scares the hell-fire and damnation right out of them (and they post it here) The fact is that every civilization in the history of this planet has undergone radical changes, by its own hand or by unforseen catastrophy. But never before in recorded history have so many inhabitants on the planet been so utterly unable to fend for themselves if faced with a world that dosent include all the amenities they have become dependent on. I know many people that would starve to death if they didnt have prepackaged chemical laden pseudo food to "just add water and heat" I know scores more that would starve to death standing in a field of food because they have been programmed to understand only "weeds are ugly and bad" The best thing about this whole y2k scenario for me has been I found a good reason to hone up on my "back to nature" skills. I think its a damn shame that most of the people that live here treat the planet they live on this way, as something to conquer instead of learn from and live in harmony with. We are way overdue for our turn as a nation too, we cant go out there and bomb all these smaller countries back several decades without expecting some kind of retaliation, there is no great love of the USA in many nations on this planet because of WHAT WE HAVE DONE TO OTHERS! George Carlin was right, we have become a nation of mostly arrogant pussies afraid of taking our own risks and unable to fend for ourselves.

I can already see the nasty comments coming, because the truth hurts, especially for those unwilling to see it.

It was also the government officials (CIA, State Dept.,etc.) who led people to believe that that there might be power failures in many countries. I was never convinced there would be significant power failures, but I did think there would be failures in the oil industry. I still don't know what in happening with oil, but preliminary indications look better than I had expected.
