greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Any word on Gary North's site? Something F'd up somewhere. There's no way he followed this story so intenelt for over 3 years and then just let the site drop on Jan. 1, 2000. NO WAY!

He's in ICU resting comfortably although he is heavily sedated. Sorry, there are no visiting hours for suicide watch patients. Thanks for your compassion.

Funny but not too realistic. I hope he'll sit down to a big plate of crow but there's no way he'll do that any sooner than March.

For those of you who haven't kept up on North's website and/or know anyting about Gary North, here is your answer.

1. Gary North is a rather strict sabbatarian. In other words, he doesn't do any unneccesary work on the Lord's day.

2. IF you had been paying attention, you would have noticed that he almost has never posted anything on a Sunday.

His main listing for new stories is down to December 13, 1999. Either Gary is being hacked, Y2k has a hold of his database and it is corrupted, files being deleted or it's something even more interesting...

Actually, his mirror site is up and running. But is seemed to have lost a little weight. He has only 1/5 the amount of threads he had prior to 1/1/00.

Now there is a guy who is worried about being made to look like a fool. The conspiracy nuts don't even want to touch this one. Gary North is just plain wrong, and now he is trying to erase history to make sure nobody proves it.

Sad

You're right, he virtually never posts on Sundays but that doesn't explain his site showing Dec-13 as the most recent headlines.

He can't erase the noteriaty (sp?) he's attained over the last two years and he knows it - trying to hide his predictions doesn't explain his disappearance.

I'm saying something diabolical has happenned, but it is very weird that he would disappear on Jan. 1.

What would you expect him to do? What is the possible point in leaving a bunch of bad predictions up on his website? Of course he's deleting them; I would also. He may have been wrong but he's no fool and certainly no masochist.

He WANTS you to believe something diabolical has happened... that is how he always lays the snare for his new victims. Poor Gary North, everyone trying to shut him down. He needs your support... he needs your BELIEF... and of course, he needs your money. And then a new meme is born once again.

Why can't you see how this man operates?

Gary North has provided an archive of his site at all times s a donwloadable ZIP file. I have this archive myself. He asked others to archive his site and even to send him copies of his own archive on CD- R. It would be meaningless for him to winnow down the contente of his site given the number of archives out there in the public record.

Gary North may still be vindicated, and the egg will not be on his face.

Gary North's site was hacked.

They tarred and feathered him at his church this AM and his fingers are so sticky that he can't type. They are now searching for the rail to carry him out of town.

I don't think that you guys are have any clue... Thanks for all the satirical answers... It is interesting to see that his latest page only contains items up to Dec 28...might the bug only be getting North!? j/k I think all you people lauding yourself and the country for somehow miraculously fixing the bug should sit tight, I haven't read one Y2K guru who hasn't said that the first weekend would probably roll by uneventfully, North included...so quit saying, "we've done it" and buckle up..

For whatever it's worth, GN's mirror site (http://www.stexel.o rg/north/latest_.cfm.htm) contains entries through the 31st...

Gary North's site had new listings for some of his categories as of January 1, 2000 A.M. Since early evening of January 1st I have not been able to find anything dated later than December 13th no matter how I try to access his site. Rather strange since I had read the updated articles.

The patient slipped into a coma at 11:54 P.M. EST. Please include him in your prayers.
