Error Propagation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Browsing through the December 1999 issue of Monitoring Times (a tech mag for comm enthusiasts, which mag took no editorial position on Y2K), I note the following listed under possible "danger dates" (p. 35):
"Jan. 2, 2000 . . . . . . High potential for error propagation."
Anyone care to comment?

I dont see it. What is going on during a Sunday that would increase errors. If the argument is that errors start on 1/1/2000 and intensify then the argument would be that 1/3/00 would be worse than 1/2/00.

Perhaps the authors are just assuming a good 24 hour incubation period for trouble to double, but it doesnt seem to have any merit.

I would think 1/3/00 would be the next date for things to multiply and possibly cascade. At least that has some validity to it.

It could be event boundary errors.
