St. Louis area can't make long distance phone calls

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My elderly Aunt who lives within the City of St. Louis (as opposed to the surrounding counties) has been trying to call me repeatedly since yesterday afternoon. I called her to wish her a Happy Birthday at 7:30 p.m. Central time. She indicated that she had just tried yet again to call me this evening. She is in her 80s and simply can't remember what specific message she keeps getting when she attempts out going long distance calls other than "Try again later."

It may become the mantra this up-coming week for a lot of services.

She's in her 80's and can't remember the message. COME ON!! You consider this a reliable source?????

Well deb she's had no problem calling me before. She's old not stupid.

She simply can't remember the specifics of the message such as "circuits are busy" or whatever--only the last part of the message which is "Try again later."

I suspect you're not aware that St. Louis is listed as an area experiencing phone service disruption.

I'm suprised at the duration myself.

No respect for elders...you automatically assumed that because she is 80, she cannot dial for herself. Give me a break, please....

St. Louis is one of a handful of cities experiencing telecommunication problems.

This one appears to be more stubborn than others.
