What were the Pentgon Papers?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

A few months back Jim Lord blew the whistle on what are noe being referred to as "The PentagonPapers" showing compelling evidence that the government knew more about what was going on in the communities surrounding Naval stations than they were letting on. If these papers were true then one would have expected to see at least a few glitches. Yet zero have shown. Now I'm sure these communities had made progress in the area of y2k, yet to have ZERO show up? My question now is what were the Pentagon Papers anyway? a hoax? or something else.

The papers were real. What you're seeing now is the hoax. Typical government coverup and spin.

Brett-

I'm a little confused...No major events occured during the rollover, and I expected SOMETHING to happen. I am prepped for a level 3-4 event, and am still watchful for next weeks events, but never foresaw a MadMax scenario.

So what is being "covered up"? Not a troll question, but what could possibly have been covered up if there was no power loss anywhere except for a few unverified, short-term events.

I can't rule out the death by a thousand paper cuts scenario, but I have to say that my confidence in any kind of a doomsday event has been shattered by the stellar news coverage of the rollover.

Mostly, I am glad that noone except my wife knows that I ever took this seriously.

Brett,

Tell me what part of the working electric, sewage treatment, running water, transportation, telecomm, datacomm, broadcast and sat TV, etc... are spin or coverup. I dont get it. Are you telling me that "spin" is somehow keeping it all running.

I spend a hell of alot of time reading Y2k stories trying to seperate the truth from the lies. You cant tell me the fact everything is running now is really just some kind of bizarre coverup.

Hey Hamster, How about giving a quick post on how you think this will all play out? I think a lot of people respect your opinion.

-- Earl (eshuholm@tstar.net), January 01, 2000.

Thanks, but my opinion it totally worthless. The organism that is our society cannot be figured out without having access to an incredible amount of information on a first-person or top-level basis AND crunching that info into thousands of scenarios and seeing which rise to the top.

Asking people here what they think will be the outcome is like asking the frumpled old drunk at the track which horse to bet on.

Rich-

You've obviously got a computer. How about doing a search on "Pentagon Papers"? You would be amazed at all the information in the world, right at your very fingertips......

This, people is a classic example of today's educational standards. Many students now can only tell you that Korea was before Vietnam because MASH was on tv before Apocalypse Now was at the theater. Shocking. FDR as man of the century? FDR Who? Was the response in my Uncle's HS class before Christmas. A wealthy white suburb too. Rich, on June 13th in 1971, Nixon awoke to a startling headline in the NY Times. A 7000 page top secret document was leaked to the press. The Grey Lady's subsequent legal battle for publication ultimately revealed a twenty year long pattern of govt. deception. Truthfully, the carpet bombing of Laos/Cambodia, Kent State and the war's expansion/resistance at home had made it universally unpopular. Even the corporate whore media changed its collective mind. Rich, there is no such thing as a bad question, true. But the children of the Reagan era have GOT to take some responsibility to educate themselves on the history of their own country. The schools aren't doing it. The wounds are still too fresh. The memories of the cancer too vivid. Rich read The Pentagon Papers and All The President's Men. I would also urge you to check out Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and Dispatches by Michael Herr (along with Conrad's Heart of Darkness, the two real blueprints for Apocalypse Now) History often repeats itself... as a farce. Hawk, can you suggest some other titles for this young man?

Sally,

Good post.

Agreed, too. As regards Watergate, have you ever read Silent Coup? It really puts President's Men to shame.

Agreed Seanie Lad! Silent Coup was by Len Coldodny/Robert Gettlin.

That's COLODNY, sorry. ATPM is a good appetizer but Silent Coup is the real meat and spuds. Many other "alternate history" titles out there. Can others suggest?
