Paging Walter.... On Da Rock

Greetings, Island Man!
I just got back to Charleston, S.C. from a week long visit with my son in Key West. Did a bunch of diving along the Florida coast on the way down, and also while in K.W.
I thought about you on your island sanctuary while hanging out with the yacht crowd at A&B Marina...what a bunch of DGI's! But, I suppose if one is sitting on a couple of million dollars worth of high tech floating luxury, its hard to get excited about buying long term storage foodstuffs and survival supplies...it was so easy to slip out of the prep mentality while surrounded with all the opulence.
Are you near these type of folk where you are, and if so, how do you maintain a heads-up attitude?
By the way, Happy New Year! When I left K.W., there were already 100,000 visitors crowded into every possible campsite, hotel, motel, etc. for the big celeb last night...What a whoopdedoo they must have had. Where do they find room to accomodate all those people?
Are things still holding together on your island at y2k + 1? Hope to hear from you soon!

Happy New Year Jay! Bermuda was one big Party last night. I would have to say that as far as Y2K is concerned, the man on the street is mostly DGI. Having said that, however, most Bermudians live somewhat prepared for Hurricanes that would really cause some grief to a 21mi. piece of real estate in the middle of the Atlantic.Every home has it's own water supply-a tank or"cistern" under the house,as all fresh water comes from rainwater supplied graciously by God. It's collected off of our stone roofs, whitewashed with lime, which helps to balance the PH of "acid" rain. If power goes out, everyone just "dips" the water out of thier tank with a 5gal bucket & rope. We've got *1* electric co. which I've believed all along did everything right,my power concerns are yet to come as they hold about a 9 week supply of oil for the plant in reserves. I've been told that Venezuela is the supplier of same,so...we shall see. About 95-98% of all food is imported, mostly by maritime shipping, so that's another pet interest of mine. The banks have been giving the standard assurances"Y2K ready", but the past few weeks have seen several ATM errors in the thousand $$$ to million $$$ figures. Cablevision I.D. is showing Jan 1st 1900 today, but it's on. Telephone service which is O.K. usually but with poor customer service is the same today. I had to agree with their Y2K brochure which stated "Business as usual for BTC", but that just made me smile. Well, Jay, I'm glad you had a good visit with your son & a great vacation too, I hope I didn't ramble on too much. I Wish you and yours all the best in this new year, and hope that we are all pleasantly surprised that things are indeed "business as usual" in the coming months......Cheers!
