roll-out nests

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

In the November/December '99 issue, the article on time saving with Happy & Grumpy referred to Happy's roll-out nests in his henhouse. I was wondering if someone could fill me in as to what these are, and if they are commercially produced or if a person can make them on his own or both? Does anyone know where there might be a picture of such a device? Thank you.

Gail Damerow's book, A Guide to Raising Chickens shows a roll-out nest. I'm sure some of the many poultry sites also show plans for building one as they seem to have plans for everything else. Basically it allows the egg to roll away from the hen, keeping the egg clean and allowing for easier gathering (if your coop is set up that way).
