Paula Gordon - HELP!! Are we out of the Embedded Woods?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

So are we out of the woods on embeddeds? If the grid is still up, does that mean embeddeds will work just fine in the oil industry?

R.C. - Where are we on oil now?

I'm flabbergasted, I must say. With so many things that could have gone wrong, I find it unbelievable that this was as much of a "non-event" as it has been.

Where are the terrorists? Where are the bad embeddeds? How can ATC be working so well?

I don't know. The thousands of hours of research, and EVERYTHING is just rosy???

I've got a conference call in 3 hours on that client of mine remediating payroll. Their running this morning. We'll see how that goes.

How in the HELL would

she know????

Haven't you got it yet???

ThAT woman never studied or worked on an embedded chip in her freekin life!!!!!

Get a freekinn brain and stop asking people who know nothing about subjects they have no training or experience in.

THAT WOMAN GAMBLED WITH HER CARREER AND LOST, THE ONLY THING SHE IS THINKING ABOUT TODAY IS HER HANGOVER.

She knows nothing about embedded anything, never has known anything about them. She surfed the internet and read what a bunch of other people who did not know what they was talking about and wrote her "white papers" based on that.

Please tell me how how how HOW you would believe what she wrote when she never ever ever worked on one in her life?? Whats wrong with you people anyway? Do you go out of your way to make sure you don't use your brain and common sense?

Would you have your drycleaner operate on your child? It's the same freekin thing!

Geeze....

Neither RC or Paula have technical backgrounds in this realm. That was part of the problem on the faulty forecasts.

It's interesting to note how those folks seem to be AFRAID of the technology. It's similiar to those who feared automobiles and aircraft when those first arrived on the scene.

Happy New Year.

Wow! Wow! I cannot believe some of these attacks, RC and Paula apparently did alot of work in this area and shared their findings, thanks for that.

Their have been many Technical savvy/technically trained individuals that have documented much in many area's including the embedded chips. What they documented make/made sense if what we believed is wrong we need to except it and move on. This whole Y2K business makes sense to me, because I work in the field, but like many I rely upon experts in their niche to help draw conclusions and from those conclusions prepare.

We should probaby wait until next week, start of business to see how that pans out.

WORK???WHAT FREEKIN WORK?? She never worked on embeddeds, she is a politicion who was out of office and read and wrote what wshe read on the web. That wasn't work. To pretend to be an expert in a subject they know nothing about is immoral.

For thirty (30) years IIIIII have WORKED on those damn things. I know what I am talking about, yet you cannot get it through your brain who should be listened to about the subject. It makes no sense!

Don't count on hearing from any of those people. The Paula's, North's, Milne's, and Hamasaki's will abandon Y2k and disappear quicker than you can say Jack Swift.

Time to move on, forget about those fools, deal with the DP date glitches, and build the future.

I predict the next 2-3 years will be very good for IT types!

HNY to all!

Too bad Stephen Poole was chased off of this board by hostile posters. He tried to tell you that embeddeds was overhyped. And I posted here that embeddeds were overhyped. I cited Dale Way, the head of the IEEE's y2k committee who said that the power would go off at midnight. I was shouted down by BigDog who told me to go back to Debunkers. (Funny, Diane and others have never been hesitant to post links to Dale Way's writings when it supported the Doomer meme. But when he said that embeddeds was overhyped he was regarded about as highly as chopped liver.) And Factfinder posted several thoughtful essays indicating that embeddeds was overhyped but he too was shouted down.

It's not like we haven't been trying to tell you that there was a lot of hype. But it is hard to be heard when you are trying to scream over a lynch mob.

Aloha Cherri

Maybe if you weren't some damn mean people would have listened to you. I read your posts, I never read you having 30 yrs experience. Maybe I missed it, but still had you come across different I would have taken you seriously, not that you care:)

I am super happy to have been *WRONG* hows that babe?

Duke1983:

WHY ask Paula Gordon about embeddeds or RC about oil? Your curious selection of "authorities" is simply a way of begging to be told what you prefer to hear. Why not ask someone who got it right so far? Do you want to know what's really happening, or do you just want to be told that you didn't get badly fooled?

Yes, asking Paula Gordon about embedded systems is like asking Andy about the price of gold.

Let's give credit to all the programmers who saved out butts!! Thanks Cherri, and all you others.

I did my best to explain the embedded systems controller failure modes in simple English, and to totally debunk Bruce Beach's silly fantasies about RTC clocks.

For my pains, I was hounded by KOS and Old Git/Squirrel/whatever her name of the week is now, got emails explaining how I was MURDERING MILLIONS, got told all about how I was a damfool polly, was accused of being on the government payroll (which I am, I am a contractor to the Corps of Engineers, but that wasn't what they meant), was told I wanted everyone to be dependant on the government, got death threats because I did not let the BFI board die but helped find it a new home. And Will Continue told me I pulsate. WTF does that mean?

Need I go on? Want the documentation and proof of every one of those statements?

Look, people, I told the truth, and told you that the people predicting vast trouble from embedded systems were full of it. (I do expect to hear about some more startup troubles, BTW, but not much more than a normal days troubles) I got kicked all over the place, and not with reasoned arguements, with personal attacks.

So wondering why pollies came off as having a chip on their shoulders is just not kosher. We got treated like shit over here.
