jrwhipple reporting web site down?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just tried to get into the jrwhipple.com reporting web site to see what was added since about 8pm last night(central time).... no luck. It would not load. Has anyone else been checking this site for news reported all around the world from their "volunteer" reporters?

The page loads, but it says "due to non-Y2K problems this site is down"

Whipple has been down since about 2200 our time last nite. I could see someof the posts for awhile, but they werent updating it. Now I can't get in at all.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the only glitches seem to be with the site reporting glitches?

best wishes,

gene

No, it's not in the least bit ironic. Such sites are probably falling over due to the vast number of people checking them. They probably don't have the computing horsepower to keep up and the servers are likely just getting wedged due to the overload in traffic.

Jeane,

Hmm... gas pumps are functioning. Oil pipelines are online. No reported problems from refineries or production facilities. I'm willing to wait, but I'd love to hear from you....
