The local news kgo-7 in san francisco interviews state operations center. all is calm....

Pretty relaxed. I've been keeping an eye on everything off and on today since 2 am local time -- my biggest complaint are all the horrible musical choices ABC has foisted on us. ;-)

I am watching about 20,000 people partying in downtown Portland, Oregon from my office building. All is well so far.

Quiet in my little corner of Silicon Valley. How else would it be glued to the net?

;-D

Would have been fun to sit in the command center for Cisco, or one of the the SV others. Bet they'll crack the bubbly in 25 minutes.

Monday... could be "interesting."

We'll see. Or not.

I don't discount a global economic or supply chain slow down... yet. But if the power holds, we're over the big hurdle.

Muddle mode... works for me. Next focus... renewable energy.

Power has been out since a quarter to eleven pst. here in neck on the woods in Butte County. I am writing this via a honda em 350 generator (about 300 watts).

I do not know if this is a localized outage or not. Meaning my little area or a larger area.

As I write this, power is just coming back on. Its now 12 minutes to midnight--so power was out about an hour.

We rarely have power outages here, but with the Oroville Dam, who knows whats going on.

Happy New Year and sleep tight.

Looking good. Just passed midnight and can still hear the last few fireworks going off. Power is on, comm is cool. Some traffic lights were out a few hours ago, but utilco said it was because the fireworks had triggered the light sensors. There were some isolated power outages earlier this evening, utilco said not Y2K-related, and all were restored. No reports of "millenium whackos" shooting at transformers or other acts of local terrorism. I report this because this locale was widely touted by the FBI to be a hotbed of high-risk fringe extremists. There was just a news item from the Police Chief saying there were only 14 arrests today (7 for DUI's), which is lower than on a normal day.

Local coverage has been poor, leaving me to wonder how things are going at the two hospitals where I had spoken to doctors this week who were quite concerned about their status. My brother-in-law goes to work tomorrow, to begin bringing up the PC's that were shut down at a chemical processing plant. I'll be holding my breath about that.

That's it for now. It's been a long day. Happy New Year, FM

San Diego: more risk from rain-slick freeways than power outages or the like. County Operations Center on Channel 10 News was quiet except for dispatchers dealing with lots of "shots fired". People insist on sending bullets into the air to descend no-one-knows-where. Maroons...

Coverage on the news of big parties in Balboa Park and in La Jolla (designated "Times Square West" by local organizers). Much relief visible on the faces of the news anchors.

Calm up here in Sonoma County CA. Been logged into the county emergency services radio net from my hilltop, been listening to the scanner all eve (stabbings, fires, flipped cars, powerlines down, gunfire...the usual X 2),listening to KCBS (S.F. AM Newsradio), periodically scanning the shortwave bands (BBC, Radio Australia, etc.), and watching the net...only minor craziness...Just about finished this bottle of Korbel Brut. Ah, Mello...

Sure hope it stays this way.

(Psst, Diane...I know somebody you should talk to about renewables...)

Quiet here on Kaua'i, just before 11 pm, except for a higher than usual amount of fireworks (predicted). You did want mid-Pacific status, didn't you?

All seems well in North Bay (Bay Area-SF). Earlier aprox. 9:00 we lost network feeds for awhile on ABC and NBC. NBC was off the air for aprox. 15 mins. No explanation given.....just jumped right in where they left off. Its 12:50 YAWN, Stretch....time for bed. Hope to relax a bit, I feel a chronic bug coming on.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ..... I love this forum, and all the help, kindness and laughs I have shared; and hope fervently to conitinue....

Other than a slight "glitch" all appears well.

All still seems OK here in Portland, Oregon. Monday could be ugly.

Happy New Year to all of you. I'm typing this Saturday morning as I couldn't stay awake long enough to post anything timely on this thread.

Uneventful New Years for this neighborhood in Sacramento, apart from the fireworks at midnight. I've actually heard louder ones on July 4, so it didn't sound like a war zone. The power flickered very briefly at 4 PM on Friday but not enough to make my VCR flash 12:00, so the downed power line from Bonneville did not present unsurpassable difficulties for the local power folks. I hope the outlying areas don't have too much trouble with their power. Phones work fine this morning - I refrained from testing them at midnight. :-) It was also nice to have heat again, after my furnace controller failed on Christmas Eve and I had to dig into my preps to warm up the house. Everything is now fixed, thank goodness.

On the whole, a good start to the new year. I hope Monday continues what Saturday started!
