Contrast between media and UN report:

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

At this point in time the TV news media paints a pretty rosey picture of the Y2K situation. However this hourly report from the United Nations has a somewhat different view of it. Http://www.iy2kcc.org/summary_chart_time.html, On this chart each nation is listed. If you click on the nation listed, a status reading is given. I did not click every nation, but every nation I did check on was have trouble in the same two areas: Hospital and healthcare, and Government. I trust the UN report more than the news media. Hey pollys and trolls, check this out before being hard on the Preppers.

The UN chart shows solid "green" status across the board. If you click on a country, the green color indicates where the country's sectors are. If the "Reduced Capacity, Capability or Service" or "Significant Reduced Capacity" columns were colored (yellow and red, respectively), then that would indicate problems. As it stands, the UN chart confirms press reports.

It pays to take the time to learn how to read the charts, before you shoot your mouth off.

It is over.

I looked all over that site and couldn't find a key to the thing anywhere. I'm not disputing your assessment, I'm just curious where you got it.. It isn't clear at all.

That's nifty. My concern was the similarity in responses. Some countries had fewer categories, but the responses seemed congruent to same categories across countries.

Yet it posts an update time, which is unique for each country. If this is accurate, then I don't know what to say.

The key isn't on the page -- and the page is poorly designed to convey the information it intends to -- it was explained on another page, which I cannot find now after reading yesterday.

Rude but accurate.

A y2k coordinator for a government healthcare organization in US. We are not worried about our biomeds and have experienced no problems with them. We will keep our eye on them. We also have experienced no problems with our big operating systems or our workstations (some old Dell 486/33 machines with 320 mb hard drives).

On this forum I'm considered a Polly. In my work circles, I'm closer to a Doomer.

Still want to see what happens over the next few weeks.

Not quite as sad about my Sooners losing tonight than I am excited about the y2k crisis not being what some thought it would be.

Happy New Year.

The chart doesn't seem accurate. For example, we know that Japan had some minor glitches in the power sector, yet the report shows green.
