For when we have to abandon the polly party. And start dodging bullets.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hey, I'm having a wonderful time with no spectacular exposions, power outages, etc. etc. So far.

Everybody here knows we're not out of the woods. Just taking a 'happy' breather, and a well-deserved one, at that.

So you pollies give us a break, already. Even you know there will be some serious problems over next _______ that will cause real people serious difficulty.

We doomers are quite aware that you're as stunned as we are as to the apparent lack of failures - hee hee!

Just give we doomers a day, or even a weekend, to be like you......... for the failures will manifest and the argument will be resume soon enough.

Fat chance Lisa....

Kudos to Flint for showing a great deal of maturity at the lack of early failure. The rest are just children, and are showing it..

Yeah, Lisa, I'm LOVING this polly feeling! Told my friends here that I was going to have crow for dinner tomorrow night! I've been giddy, and I'm about to get drunk.

But, alas, I'm a realist...

Lisa,

As Hawk would say, "You are a moron." Are you really as dumb as you chat?

I've been running on generator power for the past three hours or so, and it feels good. No worries about frequency glitches, brownouts, or voltage spikes.

Am I paranoid?

No moreso than the VA, the SSA, Corning, and numerous other outfits. So far there have been sporadic outages reported in the US, including frequency variations in Wyoming. I've no interest in having my electronic equipment smoked.

Am I a troll magnet or what?

I forgot to mention -- two thirds of the grid runs on *local* time. From 12 to 3 EDT, it'll be one rollover every hour, on the hour.

Laura,

Go to your room now, dear. The adults are having a conversation.

Ahh yes, Ron (Don??)

First it would be GMT, now local time.

Only 2 more hours...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

I too am enjoying this 'Polly moment'. We've enjoyed watching each celebration as they moved into midnight. Never in my lifetime has the entire world celebrated the same event.....remarkable. It *almost* gives one a false sense of humanity and harmony, for a moment. How I wish it could last longer.

It's far from over, but I really don't want to be bothered thinking about it until the fireworks are done and my son is tucked into bed with the '2000' glasses he made today sitting on his nightstand. I'd better hunt down the streamers and noisemakers I HOARDED.

Happy New Year to the greatest bunch of people I know!!

Heartless Hoff. Ask for a small reprieve and we get bwahahahahahed.

-- lisa (lisa@work.now), December 31, 1999.

BTW, my 'Happy New Year' includes all butt-heads, wet towels, master (baters) of the written word, people with sand-packed orifices, Burger King employees, real-estate agents, attorneys, clueless engineers, media-members-on-a-stick, those who couldn't find their ass in the dark if all five fingers were flashlights AND (just for the evening) politicians.

Think there's still any hope for a military coup? 8}

Yup. I too have been "off the grid" for about 4 1/2 hours, and it really DOES feel good. I have PERFECT power (so my PC's UPS tells me), and my fridgie doesn't have to worry about dirty power.

I'll stay this way until about 1 a.m. or so, then pull the plug & go to bed. Way Cool that there are no major probs (so far...)

Dennis - who FOR THE MOMENT is doing the "Happy Dance"...

Lisa..... Chin up! you won't find the spinless when their due. ;-)

-- kevin (innxxs@yahoo.com), December 31, 1999.

I should probably clarify that I mean dodging Y2K bullets, not troll bullets.
