Im so happy!

Ive been a GI for two years now. Ive prepped and got my friends and family to prep too. Ive also put my life on hold for the past year, and I really didnt think that the year 2000 would allow me to enjoy all those wonderful things Ive been planning for years.

Sure, were not out of the woods yet  not by a long shot  but the infrastructure throughout the world seems to be holding! My worst fears have not materialized and I feel so relived that the world will not end tomorrow (or by March) and I can now get on with the rest of my normal life. Im finally breathing a great sigh of relief and Im looking forward to wonderful new year.

Im glad that I prepped and invested conservatively. Im glad that I convinced my friends to be prudent and prepare as well. Im glad that many of my friends around the world are happily partying right now (Ive already spoken to friends in Japan, Israel, Cape Town and Paris  and theyre all o.k.)

Im so happy today!

Careful. I don't think it's over yet. Most of the people on the Titanic didn't know the ship was sinking well after the thing had taken its fatal blow from the iceberg. We're probably not going to see anything catastropic take place tonight. With all the systems interconnected like they are, the problems will seem to be small and isolated at first, but like a hole in the side of a ship it will increase faster than we can keep up with it.

I certainly hope this doesn't happen, but to say that we've corrected 50 years of carelessness in programming in the last three years is nuts. Just stay alert.

You cannot compare Y2K with the Titanic anymore. The fatal blow has not happened!!! The world is Y2K OK!!!

There have been a few visions and prophecies that Y2K will initially be a wash, causing people to relax and let down their guard, but that soon the problems would increase, and the world will realize that the consequences of Y2K had been underestimated. I'm still remaining on crash alert.

I've been following the prophesy angle as well. I suspect y2k is the small storm in the grander scheme of things, so I remain most concerned about human reaction to any y2k related occurences. What I've read certainly supports your post, and longer term y2k type scenarios, coupled with political events would be the recipe. Hopefully this will blow over, but I think I'll err on the side of caution and keep my preps for awhile.

Happy---I'm happy too but for God's sake it's the bottom of the first and optimism got the first batter out. The game is 9 innings but if we don't have a major issue with embeddeds then we can fix the other problems(Oil and Mainframes). Let's hope that everything holds.

Mostly good news so far, but I've been running on generator power since shortly before midnight GMT, and will continue until shortly after midnight Pacific time. Not worth the risk to my equipment if the power goes dirty, and since my local electric co-op was so careful as to *avoid* saying that their electric supplier was compliant, it's not worth gambling.

So far I've seen reports of outages in Texas, bad AC frequency in Wyoming, and a handful of nuke plants being taken off line.

I'm hoping the basic infrastructure will hold (I'm deeply vested in NOT having "TEOTWAKI" to deal with -- heck, I just ordered a bunch of stuff including some crystals for my EF Johnson UHF radios from ICS, won't get here for a week or so), but I think it's a bit early to relax.

I am not relaxing quite yet, nor am I overlay optimistic. I'm just happy because my worst fears have not materialized, and they are unlikely to at this point.

I'm happy to deal with some oil disruptions, some computer failures and a slowdown of our economy -- just as long as my electrical, water, sewer, phone and internet services are up and working!

Im not dropping my guard yet But I am leaving all my preps unguarded at home tonight while I go out party hopping with some of my DGI friends
