They're obviously not happy with just an admission from someone that they got a prediction wrong..the want to see groveling, sniveling and wailing. Unless your willing and find it necessary to stroke their over-blown egos and tell them what omniscient gods they are (yeah right), there's no point in even responding to them.

These are not serious debaters who were ever interested in an exchange of ideas, but rather bratty little children who delight in humiliating others.

It's your call, but as far as I'm concerned, the well meaning posts, where people admit the faults of their predictions, are just feeding blatant trolls.

Bok, I don't think we 'apologists' are saying it's over.

I still expect massive problems.

But it looks like the rest of the world are enjoying their New Years' celebrations, and it would be nice to be happy and party tonight, and deal with the upcoming failures later.

All I'm admitting is that I'm a lot more cheerful than I thought I'd be.

Gawd, I have yet to hear the fat lady sing. Anyone who thinks that the impact of Y2K can be judged in this miniscule amount of time either never understood the issues in the first place, is dumbfoundedly stupid, or blatantly pretending to be.

It's great that no earthshaking instantaneous disasters have occurred so far. Give it a while to shake out. Personally, I wouldn't be too sure of ANYTHING until a couple of weeks have passed. And I damned sure wouldn't call it a "dud" until the elapse of the first fiscal quarter of 2000.

While I agree with you wholeheartedly, I would have thought that by now SOMEWHERE in the world there would have been problems of SOME nature. CNN just stated that the Ruskies only spent $4M on their ENTIRE defence for y2k fixes while the USA spent $4BBBB. A 1000-1 disparity. I will admit that I barely know how to find this forum on a computer but am adept enough at seeing the facts and they "ain't showing me nothin'". I will feel the wrath, as I already have, from many a person at my recommendations/chidings that they prepare in some way. Can anybody that is, as I like to say, "geek enough" explain why nothing is happening on an international scale. If many of these fix-on-failure countries didn't do anything, how are they staying up? And the 'maybe they're faking it/generator's are running their shows/etc...ain't gonna cut it. Anybody with any reasonable explanation for those of us that don't see it now, please respond...

And btw, I do understand that it takes time for some of this stuff to show up and that, I can buy. But absolutely nothing happening on a large scale basis, anywhere in the world is a hard one to swallow...

I have noticed one thing that is in common with all these reports of everything being ok. They almost as with one voice all have the same answer, "No y2K gliches have been reported." None have been reported, wait till they are turned on Monday morning. None can be reported if they are not even operating.

Don, with all due respect, unless it is an OBVIOUS DIASTER, we have lots of unknowns to say the least. If a water filtration system failed, how long would it take to discover it? If banks cannot settle with each other, will that be discovered before the next business day?

One of the most quotable quotes that I have ever heard regarding Y2K glitches is that they will cause systems that we depend on to fail in "new and wonderous ways". New and wonderous ways don't always mean with thunder and lightning.
