Holy moly,

this is spooky, This morning you cant get on and this afternoon. Its a ghost town.

It wasnt supposed to be all or nothing folks. Go read the Way essay again. Maybe we still cant accept more waiting. Never goes the way anyone wants it.

Instant results---right!!! got my food, got my heat, warned everyone todays the day.

Just sit down and watch the embeds pop and then get real smug and pull out the food.

Slow process--system of systems--software applications--maybe a week maybe two.

Its not even New years here in the U.S. yet and everyones thrown in their proverbial towel. (well not everybody).

give me a break.

Most of us are monitoring Y2K as it happens - No towels thrown in here.

I've told everyone for over a year that
01-01-2000 will not be catastrophic. The
real problem will be slow in coming and
not very glamorous. Death by a thousand
cuts is a good metaphor.

Telephone Land lines working well. My local ISP email server doesn't appear to be sending so I'm sending this via Hotmail. Cell phone couldn't make a connection, probably due to heavy usage. My sister reports that everyone keeps calling her and she's trying to take a nap :). Brother in law reports that his company email system (large multinational chemical company) is showing January 1, 1980 and he can't send email. He is a DCS guru who will be at the plant on midnight to make sure all goes well. Our company Y2K guru had his brother commit suicide last night. Please pray for all the unhappy people in the world. Maybe we can fix some of our mistakes during the next 1000 years.

d,

You are absolutely right. It is WAY too early to hold a victory celebration and decide that everything is peachy. People like Lane Core, Dale Way and others at the Westergaarde site have said all along that the major problem will be on Monday and the weeks following. If there are oil wells that quit working in the next few hours, do you think that the companies and government will rush to report the joyful news to the world? I think not.

I have all along expected a "5" and prepped for an "8," both of which are primarily economic fallout over a period of time due to cascading problems with data and business. I see no reason to change my expectations at this time.

The idea of the collapse of the U.S. government, declaration of martial law or the death of millions of people through starvation scared me but strecthed my cedibility. I think in one month we may be looking at higher unemployment, higher gas prices (or shortages) lots of bankruptcies and some spot shortages or disruptions that were not immediately aparent. There is more likely to be brown-outs in July than this month.

Don't relax prematurely people. I am not a doomer, but neither am I a polly. I am prepared!

I'd about given up on trying to get in ... I'm wondering if I got in by a fluke? Maybe someone has about locked us all out?

Still here - been here at least twice a day - every day - for more than a year. Appreciate your posts. I am a big iron geek - involved in remediation of multiple mainframes, lans, and PC's. 30 years in the trenches - it ain't gonna be pretty.

Family is prepped, but worried. Advise that everyone stay close to home and wait it out. I am not sure how access to this forum will be over the next 24 hours - Communications systems may freeze up because of traffic overload.

If we can't get through, here's wishing everyone on this forum is safe and warm.

This is just the begining, not the end. Those who have prepared - do not - repeat, do not think that Y2k is over. Hang onto your stuff, you will be glad you did in the coming weeks.
