Vandals toppled a high-voltage electrical transmission tower near Bend on Thursday night.

The steel tower, which carries power more than 800 miles from The Dalles to northern Los Angeles, was taken down at 8:53 p.m.

No loss of electrical power occurred, however, because other lines instantly picked up the power, said Brian Furumasu, who coordinates Y2K transmission line preparedness for the Bonneville Power Administration, which owns the tower.

The FBI was called in to investigate...
