Your input is needed! Lisa's alternate forum...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi everyone,

Now that the immediate crisis has past (we're all home now), we need to let Lisa know what to do with her forum. She posted a topic DO WE STILL NEED THIS BOARD? (LZach):

[snip--private URL--per request--Sysop]

Please give her input...

I for one appreciates the fact that she was up till the wee hours of the morning trying to help out all of us "refugees". I do not want her to feel that all her efforts were in vain. After all, we were her "guests" and she tried to make us feel at home...

Thanks all

We are willing to stay the course if you all need a place to gather, but it seems the masses have deserted us and gone back to the original forum...and thats okay. We like TB2000 too.

It is just kind of deflating after the last day and a half of nonstop coding and mass emailing.

Kinda feel like "the other woman." LOL ;o)

I wish for everyone a very safe and uneventful New Year Rollover.

I posted this in TB2000 - Alternate forum if this goes down again

http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=0029Kr

I feel we should stay here for now, give Lisa more time to put the finishing touches on her new secure forum, and go there when the time is right and more serious/private discussions are needed.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY APPRECIATE everything Lisa has done for us! I think it would be wise to get some of the pressure off of her, give her some time to tidy up and let us know when things are ready...

In the meantime, we can all hang here... at HOME! At least until we're attacked again...

I still feel that there is a need to an alternate forum, and I feel that your's was the best solution. Please take the time neccessary to complete your "secure forum"! I have a feeling that we will still be needing it...

One last post before beddy-bye. Yes, I think it should stay up as a backup if this one goes away again. And I think she did an EXCELLENT job in such a short amount of time. I suppose it would be up to her to decide if she wanted to sit on (what will likely be) a somewhat inactive forum till it's needed.

Just my two cents...hope it will still matter in a few days.

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for your work. Job well done. Back ups are always good. :)

You're still a star in my book.

Lisa, You came through with flying colors. Thanks. I guess it's hard to split the posts though...dunno.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), December 30, 1999.

Lisa,

For all the trouble you have gone to, I thank you. I tried going back to your forum but could not get in, if it stays up I will visit both. After the recent scare of TB going down, I like the idea of a back up.

IMO, it is up to you as to what you want to do. I will support you with my presence if you keep your forum up and running. TB2000 is home, but in our hour of need you were there. We all owe you.

Lisa appears to be one of the people who crashed the forum. Along with a few other regulars. I submit the following for your consideration.

Interested@crashes.com,

But at least she made amends... more than anyone else would do...

Most people would turn around and quickly walk away, never to come back nor to help...

She showed CHARACTER... think about that...

Ouch! That LOOKS very bad. It seems that I may have to EAT CROW yet another time. Did the regulars actually take the board down? Does this mean that the trolls did not take it down? Phil, I think I have lost my way, would you kindly explain the meaning of the above referenced thread, when you have time?

-- Michael Erskine (osiris@urbanna.net), December 30, 1999.

Michael,

You gotta remember, when we were on the Backup Forum, we knew that the main forum went down due to 'Bot attacks. Every Regular would've known that they were to STOP doing 'Bot downloads...

Last night Phil took down the Backup Forum because IT TOO was under attack from the 'Bots. It couldn't have been a regular now... so the trolls became suspect. Knowing that 'Bot attacks worked the first time, someone decided to do it again. It effectively pulled the plug for all TB2000 forums.

You have to decided for yourself who is at fault here...

We were at fault the first time... but not the second...

FORUM REGULAR,

You nasty SOB. What is the freaking matter with you?? I have busted my ass for the passed two days for you people to set up a secure environment, and YOU POST THE FREAKING URL HERE???????

CAN YOU NOT FREAKING READ?????????

I could personally care less if you EVER visit our forum again, and believe me, when the password protection is in place, your IP WILL BE BLOCKED.

IT IS TROLLS LIKE YOU THAT MAKE ME WANT TO PUKE!!!!!

-- LZach (lisa@texasnetworks.com), December 30, 1999.

AND too clear matters,

I AM NOT LISA@WORK THAT USED THE BOT ON THIS BOARD.

ask her yourself.

-- LZach (lisa@texasnetworks.com), December 30, 1999.

If you are really Lisa, then e-mail me about this incident. You should have my real e-mail address...

I'll be waiting...

FR

BTW - I have no idea what you're talking about...

-- Forum Refugee (formerly Forum Regular) (Here@y2k.comx), December 30, 1999.

To the real Lisa,

My apologies if I mixed up the 2 Lisa's...

FR

Still waiting for that e-mail...

-- Forum Refugee (formerly Forum Regular) (Here@y2k.comx), December 30, 1999.

Yikes! what did I stumble in to?! Lisa, your Forum gave me a Haven, a place of rest, of comfort. Thank you, for your hard work, it laid solace on my soul as I launched every #%%%#* engine I could! Thank you, for your Tecko ability, I do not possess.

-- Truth Seeker (forus@all.com), December 30, 1999.

To the poster of the Lisa threads above...

I'm still waiting for that e-mail...

TROLLING along are we??

FR

TO ALL FWIW: I did not, have not, will not post the new "secure" URL...

-- Forum Refugee (formerly Forum Regular) (Here@y2k.comx), December 30, 1999.

You idiot, Forum Refugee, read what she said carefully and then read what you posted. You posted the fuckin URL! That's what its about and she doesn't need to email you anymore than that.

-- Read (it@carefully.com), December 30, 1999.

Forum Regular:

Yes, I am the one who made the post. The real me. Couple of things:

1) Regardless of how angry I am with you, I apologize for acting so unprofessionally in my above post. My statements, however, still stand as is.

2) I am not a troll. How many trolls have tried to help you lately?

3) Go read my post on the private forum for more answers.

4) I haven't responded to your emails because the email service at our ISP is down. Don't believe me? Send me a message and I bet it bounces back to you. The SysAdmin said that 90% of my mail after 5:00pm went into the "Not Recognized trash dump."

The new emergency email that they set me up with is posted on my thread on the forum.

Do you know how many emails I have received in the last two days? about 1500. and trying to pilfer through them again to match your screen name would take more energy than I possess right now.

Anything else you need or want from me?

-- LISA ZACH (lisa@texasnetworks.com), December 31, 1999.

Lisa,

A public apology from me is forthcoming...

Hanging my head in shame...

Lisa, on behalf of many of us who benefitted by your reaching out to us in what felt like darkness, I thank you for your Herculean effort which I hope was not a totally thankless endeavor.

Screw off (Interested@crashes.com).

Many regular users here have posted today, that they have used this technique in the past, with little problem. It is possible that too many people tried to do this, all at the same time, after the "how- to" was posted, leading to the problem. But it is my opinion, and only my opinion, that a bunch of trolls picked up on this, and they used it in a coordinated effort to disrupt the forum.

Lisa,

Ignore this idiot, and thanks for your effort!!!!! <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), December 31, 1999.

Lisa,

I haven't experienced your forum; in fact, this is the first I've read that you even had one, but thank you for helping us.
