grapefruit seed extract as a water purifier

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I understand that grapefruit seed extract can be used as a water purifier. I would like to know how much to use to make sure all bacteria is killed. If you can answer my question or point me in the direction that I can find the answer I would appreciate it. Thank you.

If your water is pure and you want to keep it longer, it's 2 drops per gallon. If it's not pure, 10 drops per gallon works. We took it to the Boundary Waters in upper Minnesota. Our water filter pooped out and so we used the GSE. Neither one of us (and one of us has a history of sensitive stomach/intestines - my husband had gotten deathly ill at his last trip when nine) got sick. Good luck!
