Top your tanks off!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I loved that radio message I heard about AAA recommending to members that they refrain from topping off their tanks since it might cause local shortages. "Half a tank is good enough"!

Wow, how stupid can you get. Duh.. Isn't that why you would top your tanks off!

I topped off both tanks in my F150, topped off my mini van, topped off my coupe and filled all my jeri cans.

The only reason I don't have more gas around is that I'm afraid of an explosion.

I topped off my SCUBA tanks...lots of air for the new year.

Oh, on the gasoline, I filled up yesterday, and plan to top off IF I can tonight or tomorrow.

The major reason for the long gas lines in the early 70's was because people would wait in lines to "top off their tanks" when all they needed was one gallon of gas, so go ahead be stupid and waste that much gas waiting to get gas.

Been there, saw that.

I must say it didn't bother me, I peddled my ass around base (Was in the Air Force).

One night the security police picked me up for that *grin*. (actually they gave me a ride to the gas station to put air in a tire).

What a startling confession, Cherri. I can only imagine the angst you've suffered keeping that bottled up for all these years.

Hopefully it will serve as a lesson to others who might find themselve in desperate straits due to failure to prepare. Personally, I don't think *anything* would warrant such self- degradation, but regardless, reasonable preparation renders the issue moot -- for those who have prepared.

And the fact that the security police were willing to engage in that sort of commerce so that they could get "that grin" at your expense should be an embarassment to the base CO.
