N.G. at defcon 2 in Farmington,N.M.!

I think there is 5 levels to DEFCON. Can anyone tell us what each level means. My parents called me on the phone and told me that the N.G. is on DEFCON 2 and soon to be moved up to DEFCON 3. I believe DEFCON 3 involves marshall law.

It like--ready, get set, now go.

ie, ready defcon 3 ie get set defcon 2 ie now go defcon 1

should you hear DEFCON 1, in plain simple english--kiss you ass goodbye.

You guys got it all wrong. Remember the movie "War Games" with the computer nerd? The General said "because of that little stunt you just pulled we are at DEFCON level 2. You know what happens when it goes to level 1? World War III."

DEFCONS apply to US military forces in relation to the posture of strategic forces ability to respond to an attack against the US.

DEFCON 1 is normal day to day activity.

DEFCON 2 is the first state of alert. Start initial perparations for action; are all the aircraft, missiles and submarines ready, supplies on hand, people told to be in the local area if needed.

DEFCON 3 is a generated alert. Leaves cancelled. People told to start packing for unknown destinations and to start studying their maps and plans. The response force is increased and is ready to go on short notice.

DEFCON 4 is hieghtened alert. This would be everybody ready to launch. The Cuban Missile Crisis was a situation with the US military on DEFCON 4.

DEFCON 5 is the start of hostilities.

Next comes "break out the suntan lotion, we're all gonna have great tans for a few microseconds".

Sigh...

Defcon 1 is war. Defcon 5 is peace.

I believe the only time we've ever been at Defcon 2 was during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

If we were at Defcon 2, it is likely all the national guard units - ALL of them - would be mobilizing, as well as all the military. That isn't happening.
