Ok, lets make up our minds do we stay here or go to the ONEList forum ... we are getting busy here already

greenspun.com : LUSENET : HumptyDumptyY2K : One Thread

This forum is starting to get busy, so lets make up our minds. I'm getting tired of having to check 2 forums already.

I have one question for you Ron:

Can we still use our alias names and stay anonymous or will we have to come out and say who we are? I couldn't tell from the sign up form. The policies say we can contact ONEList to get rid of our e-mail address but how long does that take - do you know?

Hm, I figured we were staying here, and using the ONE if this pooh- poohs. Any word all?

Just got back---tried to join ONE, but the lag got on my one good nerve. Hopefully that will remain an alternate for now.

-- Hokie (nn@va.com), December 29, 1999.

Stay here for now.

I have a hiearchy back-up, if necessary. I'll post tomorrow once the team gives me feedback.

IS: the domain part of your address will be XXX'd out in the web archives, and you can hide it from the member directory, but it will show up in any posts you make (in the emails). You might want to consider setting up a Hotmail address to remain anon. (I don't have a problem with anon, only with the abusers.)

Ok, I've registered there, got the e-mail from onelist, replied it, got another thanking me, registered with TB2000 Alternate, said I'll read the forum on-line and not to send me e-mails and am waiting for the moderator to approve my account. Is that you Ron?. Man I can see this is going to be a pain for a lot of new users and Ron have you just got a new life as an approver now?

I say we stay here until this blows up if it does and then use the OneList as a backup and a place to get annoncments about what's going to happen while this or TB2000 itself is down, but lets all get registered there *now* so we don't have to waste time trying to do it later while we have no place to talk or need support getting signed up and we also all know where we go when this blows up for updates/announcements or to continue the threads.

Ok with everybody else? If so, then lets move on if this admin stuff is settled.

Hokie -- I can sign you up if you like. Let me know.

-- Ron Schwarz (rs@clubvb.com.delete.this), December 29, 1999.

IS: Yup, it's me. I've approved all the applications so far, and as I mentioned in another thread, I'm contemplating making joining non- moderated to enable people to sign up without having to wait for me to approve. I can still cancel or ban if a ringer slips through. Anyone please feel free to tell me what you think I should do in that regard.

-- Ron Schwarz (rs@clubvb.com.delete.this), December 29, 1999.

Good grief I'm addicted to this board! When I saw other site was down, I nearly lost it. I'm happy my brain was working well enough to find my way over here. It would be very gracious of Ed to let us hang out here until (if?) things get fixed. Figures this would happen as we are getting down to the wire. Wouldn't want us wackos upsetting the apple cart. I am dying to know the motivation (employer?) of LadyLogic.

-- Gia (laureltree7@hotmail.com), December 29, 1999.

Hello, Gia! LL is not in anyone's employ. She's just a pathetic mentally disturbed individual. The folks at Debonker's don't even reply to her.

Heads up, folks. LL just posted a thread over at Deonkers directing them to this forum.

I think you'll need to make approvals automatic for now if you'd like to keep your sanity. As you say you can always nuke any spammers. But lets get consensus on where we will be as per my last message.

My preference is to continue here (I'm so used to the nice clean layout of the responses and the fast and clean printing since there are no graphics) BUT everybody should to register at onelist and if this forum or TB2000 itself are down then go to onelist to continue threads and or get announcments about what to do and where to go.

Is this ok with everybody and you Ron?

-- Interested Spectator (is@the_ring.side), December 29, 1999.

Ok, who is this and what is this new forum:

http://18.24.3.72/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=0028RJ

Common folks lets get this settled and cleared away before we end up in a real mess.

Lets take a vote on my last message or any other usefull suggestion and lets keep this in one thread so we can nail this down.

-- Interested Spectator (is@the_ring.side), December 29, 1999.

IS: done. I'll start a new thread here to announce it.

Moderate when you feel you have the time to do so conveniently (eg when you're at your computer anyway), automate it otherwise. Or let them stack up, since it's an alternative location, not a place people would be using right away. Please try to keep it here so long as Ed is OK with that. If this one gets taken down, what's to prevent yours from suffering, too. Do you have some super duper machine?

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage), December 29, 1999.

Dancr: it's not done on my machine, it's done on ONEList's machine. They're a large (public) system, and I'd wager they've honed their anti-abuse skillsets quite a bit since they opened for business. (They host thousands of lists, have abuse staff, etc.)

I've made the list open, which means that people can subscribe without any action on my part. (I really am busy enough as is. [g])

Ron,

Can I use more than one e-mail address on the ONElist? I post from both work and home and I use a Hotmail address from work. Just thought I'd ask before I went into the whole signup process. I do agree that it is a good idea to have a non-MIT place to share info as well...thanks Ron!

(Just hopped over to Debunkies, I'm a little surprised that the jubilation at the situation at TB2000 was more understated that I'd have initially expected. Perhaps they were a little worried that they would have to start harassing each other if our little home bites the dust? Gotta have SOMEONE to hate, I suppose...)

OK. I'm signed up.

Ron, how many of us regulars do you have so far?

-- Familyman (2daystogo@this.time), December 29, 1999.

Hey! Where's this Onelist place? URL PLease or Link?

-- Billy-Boy (Rakkasan101st@AOL.Com), December 29, 1999.

John -- not sure, but I *think* you can provide an alternate email address on ONEList. You could always subscribe at both addresses if you like.

As to the Debunkies being circumspect -- I suspect they realize who the "likely suspects" are and don't want to bring down the heat. Ultimately, the server logs will point to the guilty IP addresses.

Familyman -- 47 members as of this point.

Billy -- It's at http://www.onelist.com/community/TB2000-Alternate.

-- Ron Schwarz (rs@clubvb.com.delete.this), December 29, 1999.

Thanks Ron...I'm In now...But as the 'old name' of Rakkasn@Yahoo.com

-- Billy Boy (Rakkasan101st@Aol.com), December 29, 1999.

Got signed up, waiting approval. More info than I wanted to give, but, can't go without my TB2K fix ;-)

BTW changed email to a pre-existing Yahoo account, Hotmail gives my PC fits with its secure server stuff.
