Sorry.....didn't realize this thread was here......the headings are bass ackwards here with the newer ones at the bottom........

Like I say in the next post, the whole thing reeks......don't buy it!

What do you think?

Could be a DNS attack and Phil is just fed up. I've used robots to collect TB2000 threads in the past ONLY during off hours (after 3AM EST) but I've done nothing tonite. Most robots only open 10 or so connections at a time so if he's getting really hammered it is either intentional or just someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

Someone should let the regular sysops know we are here.

Yeah......but if he is getting hammered why not track where he is getting hammered from and send an immediate cease and desist order

Also, why not just change the name of his root folder for example from timebomb to timebomb2 and at least post the new URL for the home page (if not a redirect)? I'm sure all his links in there must be relative ones and it would at least be a quick patch until he gets these boneheads who are straining his site off his back?

Btw, I meant to say DOS attack not DNS attack.

Yeah......but if he is getting hammered why not track where he is getting hammered from and send an immediate cease and desist order

That's not always so easy with dynamically assigned IP addresses. And if, since it's late at nite on a holiday, the ISP of the person attacking doesn't have a body 'watching the store' there might not BE anyone to complain to.

Also, why not just change the name of his root folder for example from timebomb to timebomb2....

Wouldn't stop a direct attack. All the person would have to do is change the URL they are attacking and the robot will take it from there.

I've written many a web robot (for legit purposes) and it is NOT hard to beat on a server so hard it pukes. You CAN get caught, but you can't always be stopped before the damage is done.

Y'all, I happened to be watching the forum and 'LadyLogic' had begun a *major* spam attack on it just prior to it folding up and dying. This was right about 12:15 (actually probably a couple of minutes before that). Then it just choked and when I went to reload.. bam I got the dreaded 'forum turned off message'.

Hello,

Not so fun when it happens to you, is it?

I think I will email Y2KPro the keys to this board, and allow HIM to determine what stays up and what gets deleted.

Seems only fair.

Jonathan

It appears someone told everyone over there how to copy the forum and many decided to do just that, Lisa?

-- Cherri (sams@brigadoon.com), December 29, 1999.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen!

I am sooooooo happy to see the Doomers come here to try and reconoiter. After all the mocking, insults and "troll trashing", they now want us to help them out by letting them have their dicussion over here.

HA!

I say give the Keys to Y2K Pro and he can go DELETE HAPPY all he wants... especially if Diane, Chuck and the other Sysops decide to post here.

Yes, I think justice has been served nicely.

Well, at least now we know who the poor losers are, and who took down the TB2000 forum. For those of you who can't control your spam urges, and get deleted, the sysops never shut down the forum, they simply removed those who couldn't follow the rules. If you had posted in an orderly manner, you would still be on TB2000. But since you couldn't play by anything but your own rules, and got busted for it, you decided that if you couldn't have it, no one could.

How mature.

Yeah, you would see it that way, wouldn't you? Just goes to show that not one of you TB2K 'regulars' ever bothered to take the time to see what any of 'us' were about.

You talk about rules as if there were actually any that are ever followed at your Pit. Please; give me a freakin' break. I will have the good grace here not to point just exactly what serves as "rules" for the likes of your little forum.

If any of you had bothered to take ten minutes out of your precious Preparing lives to find out about us, the first thing you would have noticed was that we want your stinking forum to remain up, healthy and active for a good, long time after the rollover. Think about that for a minute.

And to think there was a point in time (many moons ago) when I actually gave you guys credit for having a POV. I actually felt sympathy for you people, knowing how badly you had been taken in by your Fearful Leaders.

Rest assured I am no longer as naive as I used to be. Talk about losers.

Welcome to a real forum and real freedom of speech. Somehow I don't think you're going to like it one bit.

-- Patricia (dont.even.think@bout.it), December 29, 1999.

All right, Patricia: if this forum has such high moral standards, why do you tolerate such people as "Doomers Suck" and Jonathan Latimer, who seem more interested in petty vindictiveness than discussing whether or not y2k is the problem some feel it will be? If you truly feel that TB2000 should have stayed up, you should have done everything you could to reprimand such people as "LadyLogic" for her actions on that board, and "Doomers Suck" and Jonathan Latimer for their attitudes here. Instead, you join them in being arrogant and close-minded. FWIW, on a moderated forum, there is no such thing as "Freedom of Speech", because the whole point is to discuss a single topic, not to mention preserve bandwidth on Mr. Greenspun's machine. And even if there were some requirement that anyone be allowed to say whatever they want on any topic, those people who got banned were banned for idiotic acts such as spamming and Denial Of Service attacks. So before you get all high-and-mighty about "freedom of speech" and the TB2000ers not knowing "who you really are", do some research of your own, and see why things happened the way they did. As for "taking time out of our...lives...", perhaps we have better things to do. BW I hope you don't live in GA...

-- Little Pig (littlepig@brickhouse.com), December 29, 1999.

Little Pig, what was that crack about "BW I hope you don't live in GA..." supposed to mean? I do happen to live in GA. -- Dirt Road
Then again, Lisa says I'm "natively and inherently prepared" so I guess it don't matter.

-- Dirt Road (got.it@got.beyond.it), December 29, 1999.

The maturity level of the pollys never ceases to amaze me. What a bunch of juveniles!

-- Boy Scout (boyscout@beprepared.com), December 29, 1999.

Come on, scout. I don't care what a person believes about Y2K as long as he or she is reasonable. Your comment about "a bunch of juveniles" is very strange in the context of this thread.

-- mil (millenium@yahoo.com), December 30, 1999.

mil, what part of BUNCH didn't you understand? There are a more than a few polly jackasses here, that's for sure. I'm not saying that there aren't jackass doomers, I'm just commenting on the maturity level on this thread. That's all.

-- Boy Scout (boyscout@beprepared.com), December 30, 1999.

To Little Pig: You kind of proved my point with your remark about LadyLogic. Apparently, you haven't noticed that for the most part, we don't even reply to her at Debunker. But how would you have known that, right? All your thousands of hours of Internet research into Y2K and you've never even gone to see for yourself what Debunking Y2K was all about. You simply took the words of your fellow denizens of TB2K versus doing your own research. Not surprised. Hmmm. Wonder if that's how you treated the whole Y2K issue? Would certainly explain a lot.

To Boy Scout: This is OUR FORUM. DUH.

-- Patricia (dont.even.think@bout.it), December 30, 1999.

Forgot one thing Boy Scout: If I were you, I wouldn't talk about "maturity level".

People who live in glass houses and all that.....

-- Patricia (dont.even.think@bout.it), December 30, 1999.

Scout, I should ask you the same. What part of bunch don't you understand? In the context of this thread your comment doesn't make sense. I'd also prefer you didn't call others childish names. There are disagreeable folks on both wagons.
