My New Year's Eve plans...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Come New Year's Eve night to early New Year's Day, I'm on duty at a Reserve unit. Let's just say in the NY/NJ/PA/CT area. I volunteered. Hey, the Main Squeeze is over in Germany, the kids have grown up to be as normal and emotionally stable as I am, and the family doesn't have end-of-year parties, so why not? One well-meaning soul said, "The Reserves??? But you won't be with your family!" Au contraire, I will indeed be with my family. ANYWAY...I have NO knowledge of ANY martial law schemes, house-to-house searches, blocked roads, and believe me I am in a position to know a couple of these things. As far as seeing new vehicles at your local armory or Reserve center...the Force Structure people are the bane of my existence, and they DO make frequent changes in levels of equipment or where the stuff will be stored. Please also believe me when I say that WE are YOU...and the level of world awareness and maturity of outlook is deep and profound in your typical Reserve soldier (oh, awright, you NG troopers are OK too!). WE are the police, the fire dep't, etc. There is no faster way to invite a smack in the face than to imply that we would betray our Oath to the Constitution, and the American people. Don't bet on us being fooled for very long either. CAN ANYBODY SAY "AIRBORNE"?? (or "Amen?") Sorry if this is too long.

You sound like a decent guy who has his s**t together and I applaud you and your attitude. I also hope to God that you are right about your fellow soldiers.

Mr. Mike: Hope you are for real; you sound like it.

You touched on a question I posed just last night--whether, in a "crisis" where the Pres. enacts one of his nefarious E.O.'s, whether there would be enough armed forces members who would remain true to their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and NOT the reigning President.

If you know your history, you will know that that is how HITLER got his armies to kowtow to him--he changed the oath they took from undying loyalty to the Fatherland to "undying loyalty to Hitler"!

Believe it or not -- Marines are people too! Uphold and defend the Constitution. Protect the American people. Semper Fi.

Mr. Mike. I believe you and wish you a good New Year's Eve and safety for your family.

as a veteran and father of a son proudly serving in the Navy, I want to add an "amen" to your statement that "WE are YOU."

great post; well said; thanks...

I was a NG Cav Scout. I upped because I thought we were going to fight the big one with the ruskies, and "I wasn't ready for college yet".

It's your kids that wear the uniform. An American soldier would never violate the constitution or betray their oath.

I wish I was still in.

Happy to read your post. I still have concerns because of who we have as Commander in Chief. I have seen so many things that I never, ever thought I'd see in the US of A. Thanks for your good thoughts.
