Attention Hoosiers! Did you see news that Indpls airport lost radar and 2 planes almost crashed?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

No link, just on news. I don't know the reason it happened.

Also saw many people filling up gas/Kero jugs today. Talked to one guy and said he was getting ready for y2k. Bread gone in one store and almost in another. Signs up about y2k and several people roaming stores with cartons of tuna etc. I think people are starting to prep!

Airport Power Outage Airport Power Outage

Operations are back to normal at the Indianapolis airport after a power outage and a computer problem over the weekend.

A power outage Saturday affected both radar and radio frequencies. Making it impossible for controllers to communicate with or track planes. The FAA used back-up generators to fix that problem. Then on Sunday a computer glitch kept air traffic controllers here from exchanging flight plans with their peers in Kansas City. Several planes had to be re-routed.

If anybody in the Indy area sees bottled water flying off the shelves, you might attribute it to this WISH-TV (channel 8) news bulletin:

Fish Kill Follow-Up

When dead fish were found in the river from which the city's drinking water flows, it was clear something had to be done.

State conservation officials think the contamination began in the White River, fifty miles upstream from Anderson. People found dead fish on every level of the stream: from bottom-feeders such as carp to game fish like this striped bass. And, finally, dead fish were found in the canal Tuesday morning as water company officials took action to protect the city's water supply. That action was to add additional chlorine to the water, a method that would eliminate the compound in the water that led to the fish kill.

For some city residents, the routine answer is bottled water. But water company officials say the water that comes from the tap is safe, although the chlorine could cause a different smell or taste during the increased treatment. However, they do add that once the water is refrigerated, most people wont notice a difference in taste and the odor problem will dissipate.

Local Ohio bottled water company "can't fill bottles fast enough to fill retail orders." according to local radio news...

Could this be A CLUE!!!!

More Dinty Moore,

Yes I heard that on the news. Did you see the report last night on WISH 8 about the fish kill on the white river that has killed fish as far away as 50 miles down stream. I didn't catch the city that was having problems with their sewage but, there is a very large sewage problem up stream from Indy. Columbus, Indiana here, how about you?

Say --' tsn't an example of interconnectedness of systems is it? As in. e.g., a power outage or Y2k problem in Indianapolis causes a release of untreated sewage into the river, which kills fish at all levels and contaminates the water supply, which has to be restored to "purity" by addition of unprecedented levels of chlorine, which ..... MEANWHILE the radar and radio communications systems at the airport go out just as JANE GARVEY is getting ready to board her connector flight ......
