Real or not Real

does anyone else feel like they are walking around in a fog. Sometimes I think I am loosing my mind. I am making all these plans and NO ONE I talk to is even thinking about Y2K. Even my family is sick of hearing about it, so I try not to talk to them about it. I feel like I am on the outside looking in on a movie that I am part of.

Sheila, trust me, you are not alone. For now, just try to get past the emotions and look at what you know. It could get very nasty but nobody knows how nasty. You have bought insurance in whatever amount you have felt necessary. Now relax for a bit, knowing that you have planned as well as possible. If you're wrong, eat your insurance. If you're right, eat your insurance. A win/win situation. Good luck

Oh Shelia, I do know how you are feeling. We are down to the last days and for me it will be over Jan 1. If nothing major happens on that day then I say we are in the clear except for minor disruptions.

I am sick of Y2k. I never want to hear the term Y2k again as long as I live. But at least I am prepared

Shelia, I know just how you feel...same here. Today as we were filling our 55 gallons barrels I was wondering if "I'm nuts". I only know 2 other people who are prepping (and neither are near me). Yesterday I bought ammo, fire extinquishers (sp) and other last minute items.

Hang in there. Just because other are apathetic or careless, does not mean you should follow the sheeple. Trust your judgement and stick to what is necessary to provide for you and your family. Regardless of a 1 or a 10, you are never wrong being prepared to live.

BTW...to the poster who intends to let down after 1/1/2000. Not a good idea. True, you may not need to sit wringing your hands, but the uneventful passing of that day (???) in no way indicates that everything will be OK in the days to come.

Sheila,

Glad to know I'm not the only one feeling that way! We've been "prepping" for several months now, bought a generator, stored water and food, etc. Here in Central Florida it's a gorgeous day outside, people are doing post-XMAS shopping and NO ONE is talking about Y2K. I'm a software developer and no one at my company is talking about much it either. I'm ready for this to either happen or pass ... I'm sick of the whole thing.

I want to believe that this is going to pass as a BITR but, unfortunately, my professional judgement keeps getting in the way. I simply can't see how it could have been fixed!

Right now it seems to be like it must have been in Pearl Harbor before the Japanese attacked; everything is wonderful - life is good. No one seems to be even MILDLY concerned about something going wrong. It is positively weird.

Sheila,

What you are describing is sometimes called cognitive dissonance. It can be very disorienting.

A sense of *real danger* from Y2K was probably necessary for you to become motivated to act. But a sense of real danger becomes very disorienting when there is no actual sign of danger.

One thing that might help is to slightly recalibrate your thinking. Notice your surroundings. Is there anything there that is not safe for you? I mean *right now*, not in a week or a month. Take enough time to absorb that right now you are *safe*. Really let it sink in.

Being safe right now you can relax. Relaxing should not change your mind about Y2K, but it might let you feel better. You can continue to plan and prep in a more peaceful frame of mind. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Yep...one has only to look at the stock markets to feel a real disconnect! The Y2K and economic realities are not being properly factored in...yet.

I have the water supply in the hall, going to fill bathtubs friday evening. getting gas in the truck thursday, washing the dogs friday before cleaning tubs and filling them with water, got the canned food and a hand held can opener, got a gas grill in the back yard, guess the stuff in the freezer will go bad if we lose power, got kerosene lamps and flashlights and plenty of blankets and 3 dogs for warmth. so, i guess i am ready as i am going to be.
