Not using it at all is my solution. Many viruses seem to target Outlook, so I just use an older version of Eudora. Far fewer options, but hardly any virus risk if you're not foolish enough to open attachments.

Do you need to use Outlook Express? There
are many good email clients out there
including Pegasus Mail. If you need to use
OE, change your preferences so that it will
not automatically view attachments. Then
don't download attachments that are applications
from unknown sources.

Don't double-click on .EXE or .COM files sent to you. Most viruses spread as attachments in emails.

Don't open suspicious emails (SPAM).

Also, turn off the "preview pane" (View/Preview Pane in Outlook 2000). Some viruses can launch simply by viewing the email in Outlook.

Dump it.
