OT-maybe...Browser problems?

Sorry to bother, but I installed IE 4.01, then when a problem came up with the script on pages of text - actually the top half of letters did not show up, and sometimes even whole lines - but when I highlighted them, they came out fine. I re-installed the same program yesterday and it is even worse today. Seems to be intermittent, but this is the worst site, maybe because of all the text.

Is this a Browser problem, maybe graphics not keeping up as a page "unfolds"? Not enough RAM - took it into the shop the first time and it did not do it for them, so they weren't able to say for sure. Not tragic but really annoying....any suggestions as I would not get it back from a shop before the year end if I found one to look at it today. Thanks, Laurane

This really is not surprising, especially MS products. Sometimes rebooting helps sometimes it does not. At this time though, I would not attribute it to y2k.

I've always referred to IE as 'internet exploder', having tried v 4 & 5 I when back to 'nutscape', its a much more stable product.

Laurane:

I have 4.01 on a Mac and it has always worked fine [I do have 260 or so Megs of RAM]. It will need to be patched. There are multiple patches for the Mac version [I have forgotten how many]. Version 4.5 for the Mac is a mess [It has been discussed here before]. If you are using a Win version, I can't say. I use Netscape there.

Best wishes,,,

Installing the 5.01 IE browser solved the problem - thanks for all your help, had to try something and that did it.
