Playing VCDs on my DVD - Problem...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Ok, here's the deal. I got an RCA DVD player for Christmas, and it says it can read VCDs, as long as they're not on CD-R, so I figure, what the heck, I'll try CD-RW, so just to try it out, I get this Bjork video from the internet in MPEG-1 format, and burn it onto a CD-RW...The file extension is mpg. Now, when I put it in my DVD player, it recognizes it as a Video CD, but when I press play, it makes some whirring noises and fixes on a black screen. Can anyone help me out?

i dont know if this will help or not, but do you know the bitrate that Bjork mpeg is at? This can make a big diffeence. vcds use a bitrate of 115 or less(112). However you can make a higher bitrate and still have it as the vcd format, but our dvd players will not read them(an example is i made a vcd using the NTI cd maker pro becasue it doesnt care about bitrate for vcd format with a full 3000bitrate) i tried it in my player nad it regonized it as a vcd but when i went to play it it skipped horribly and i got no sound, however these kind of high vcds will play in your pc just fine. Try adjusting the biotrate if you can.
